Carers Week UK 10 – 16 June 2019

Theme: “Getting Carers Connected 2019”

Carers’ week is an annual campaign supported by individuals and organisations such as Age UK, to raise awareness of the amazing job, an army of unpaid carers do and the challenges they face.

There are over 6.5 million unpaid carers in the UK providing care for loved ones who are older, ill or disabled physically and mentally. The task is onerous and at times overwhelming, isolating and exhausting. Carers often compromise their own health and wellbeing due to the pressure of the needs of those they care for. Who cares for the carers? We all need to. The theme this year is to help carers get connected and to access the support, help and advice they so badly need, whether that is professional medical or social services, building relationships through peer support and support of family and friends, accessing technology and more.

For more information: carersweek.org/about-us/get...

You all do an amazing job, sometimes only just managing to keep your heads above water, paddling with all your might. We appreciate all that you do in the face of adversity. We know this Care in the Community forum is a way for you to get connected to peer support and practical advice. We value you. Do keep connected with us and whether you have had a challenging week or a relatively good one, we are here for you, for each other, ready and willing to listen and care for you.

Best wishes,

MAS Nurse and Moderator.

Hello MAS_Nurse, thank you for your lovely post. It’s nice to be recognised and feel appreciated. That’s not to say Pete doesn’t appreciate me but sometimes he’s caught up with himself, understandably.

It was good to have our daughter and family home from their holiday in Kos on Sunday. Pete has been doing ok apart from his back pain and low mood. He keeps remembering his time in hospital with severe sepsis but we’re working through it.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and take care of yourselves. Xxxxx

Gosh MAS_Nurse, is it really time for the annual Carers' Week again? I remember flagging it up what must have been last year, but feels like a couple of months ago.

But what a valuable thing it is to have a dedicated time to support all those people who are caring for others. It's so frustrating having little in the way of a voice to air our concerns and frustrations, and never more so than right now, when all of government is preoccupied with other matters and funding has been pared down to the bone.

I echo your praise for everyone who is doing this in some very trying circumstances and battling exhaustion and loneliness.

A rousing great cheer to you all and, whilst of course it's quite right to honour those who have done brave deeds for our country, it's also right that our 'silent army' of carers are honoured for all that they do too.
