Hello and welcome Cindy123dog.

This is a very supportive and caring community. I am sure some of our members will respond to your question. On your screen there is a 'pinned posts' section that does contain information for you. Carers allowance is decided by your application to the Department of works and pensions (DWP). It is taken on an individual's assessment and they supply the forms. Basically you need to spend at least 35 hrs a week caring for someone, be over the age of 16yrs and earn £116 per week or less.

You can request the forms for this benefit by telephone on 0800 731 0122. Web: gov.uk

Please keep in touch with us here on this forum, let us know how you are getting on and good luck to you both.

MAS Nurse.

Hi Cindy123dog,

I see that you have just joined the Care Community, so a very warm welcome to you. I'm very out of date on benefits but I just did a quick bit of online research for you, in the hope that it would help, and found this:

'Attendance Allowance can be paid regardless of your income, savings or National Insurance contribution record and is a tax free benefit. If you are a carer who has care needs, you can claim Attendance Allowance for yourself and this will not affect your Carer's Allowance.' This is from the Carers UK website.

I should stress again that it isn't based on any real personal knowledge and maybe one or more of our members may have personal experience of claiming, but at least this is a start point for you.

And if research online is not for you, I can recommend your nearest Citizens' Advice Bureau who are a fount of knowledge on benefit matters and can probably offer advice on claiming too.

Best wishes. Please let us all know how you get on.

Hi, welcome. You need to talk to the Dept of Work & Pensions they have all the criteria at their finger tips. I have attendance allowance which is reviewed every year. I have tried to get a carers allowance for my partner but she earns more than the permitted level, it's only a pension sum so the threashold must be very low. If however you don't work and have an income then it should be available. Be prepared however for a long form to fill in and time to get a decision.

Good luck
