Having a bad night, OH had pacemaker fitted 3 weeks ago then fell and spent most of Tuesdaynight in A an E,we thought he had tripped on kerb but as. Lost use of his legs yesterday think he must just have fallen. Nurse coming hopefully to check face wounds tomorrow. Now most unsettled and I am wondering if loss of use of legs is a natural progression of vascular dementia.am calling dr in morning to discuss. He has not been in touch for a long time. Feel very. Isolated

My husband had a pacemaker fitted because he had very low heart rate, less than 40 bpm. He also was told there was some vascular damage in his brain.

Would not expect loss of movement to be a part of this process. In fact friends have led a new life after a pacemaker was fitted. It will depend on the rest of his health.

When you get in touch with your doctor, ask him if a neurologist can be brought in to investigate why OH seems to have lost use of his legs.

This happened to my grandson after a minor op, and turned out to be trauma related. It did not affect his toileting at all, except that he could not feel. He was in a wheelchair for 6 months and then managed to stand up again. He now walks well but has tired legs after activity. It seemed ridiculous to us at the time, but he recovered.

If the Dr has not been in touch for a long time, then he needs to be told to take this setback seriously, and do his job! Don't be put off! Get another opinion if you are not satisfied!

I've also spent the night in A&E as my other half had a fit (he also has dementia). What a dreadful place to have to spend time!

Honjen 43's suggestion of getting a neurology opinion is good so that the problem with your husband's legs can be investigated. Also, Dementia UK will also be able to provide support. Thank you for your suggestion, ruse been this morning and arranged for a doctor to call this afternoon (not his own who was coming tomorrow) but will be just be glad to see anyone. A very lonely place without you people

Thank you all for the support, doctor now been and given OH good check up and suggests he try to get downstairs tomorrow, and, despite what my friend says, keep,walking albeit with something to hold on to like a tripod walker. Feel much better now. Still not the same rapport with doctors as many years ago but at least he came.
