Make sure he sees a doctor, possibly a dermatologist. When I was 84 I had similar symptoms. The rash on my back turned out to be eczema and the rash on my leg was from cellulitis, a serious disease. I was treated for both and advised on how to avoid recurrences.

I read an article about this recently and it said that it can be caused by the skin getting very dry. As Jaykay said, you must see a doctor about this in case it is anything that needs treatment urgently.

Hi there,

Don't try to second guess this. Only a medical professional would be able to say exactly what's causing this, but if there's any delay before he can see a doctor or nurse, you could try to sooth the soreness with a non-perfumed moiturizing cream such as E45 or Cetraben, but if that too causes more itching, don't use anything.

Hello Aud welcome to this community. I support the advice that the other forumites have suggested to you, to get your husband reviewed by his doctor, as treatment can be targeted specifically once the rashes are diagnosed. As well as what has been suggested, it could also be shingles, or a drug reaction. So there maybe many underlying causes for a doctor to consider.

Well done folks, yet again you are showing how wonderfully engaged, supportive and understanding you are in this community. Keep up the good work :-)

Keep in touch Aud and let us know how you get on.

Best wishes.
