Hello pupusbutchus welcome to this community. Good question. I'm not sure of the answer as I'm not an expert in Benefits. It may be worth you looking at the pinned posts section to the right of this screen and click on the 'Carers Allowance' link. This will take you to further information and a link to the Government website. Also, here's another link to Attendance Allowance which explains how to get financial help if you are the one being cared for. It's a complicated business and maybe worth you speaking to a Citizen's Advice Bureau advisor who has expertise and experience in these areas. They are both means tested and they can affect the Benefits a person is already on, so it's worth doing your homework.

Good luck! Keep in touch.

Attendance Allowance isn't means-tested. Carers allowance isn't either, I believe.

No NOT now since the PIP came in as they say if you can care for someone else how come you can't do it for yourself.

More than one person in the same household can claim Carer's Allowance. For example, a couple caring for each other can make separate claims. Your savings don't affect your claim for Carer's Allowance but if the sum of a persons income including Carer's allowance is above the tax threshold it can be taxable. Hope this helps.x

My husband and I both have serious health conditions, we hade a care assessment last year, he already had attendance allowance at the higher rate, and because I have Ms I get mobility and Disability alowence, but I still have mobility and disability, he has never received anything for the care over the years he gave to me, we were granted carers supplement, no money because my works pension from the health service, did not enable us to receive any money, but it did open other doors, we now get a reduction in our council tax. Get a proper assessment done, I think of your worst possible days, never say we can manage, please try don't give up , we were very lucky and got a wonderful lady to do it, she even filled in all the forms for us and asked the right questions, we are both 74years, I I can help with anything else please contact me.
