I think there are many of us who have experienced this, Chrissieann62.

All my terrible symptoms arose after surgery 17 years ago, but there were complications, too.

What I failed to realise was that surgery is traumatic to the body especially invasive female surgery.

I do not know what your surgery was and we can only speak from our own experience, but my surgery affected me on all levels - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

I was not the person after the surgery that I was before - my husband's words to the doctors when we were trying to find out why I was not recovering well.

It changed me completely; I am not sure that some of the changes were a bad thing because now I take responsibility for my own health and do not trust anyone else completely with my health and the decisions I make regarding it. I learnt that even the health service is a business where money is put before health of the patient on many occasions.

chrissieann62 , welcome to a great place filled with encouraging people.

While no one person shares every one of our experiences, there seems to always be someone who can relate to our symptoms or emotions.

I hope you find lots of support here.

So sorry you never made a good recovery. Yes surgery can do amazing things for the body both positively and negatively and unfortunately at the time we make a decision on the facts presented to us and we tend to believe what the health people tell us as of course we aren't doctors. When it is a negative it can make us question who should be in charge of our bodies. I often think the younger a woman is when she has to have surgery the more long term affects it can have on us which we don't fully comprehend at the time and are not always pointed out to us and we then have to live with teh consequences.x

when I went in for the surgery I believed I would make a good recovery but the surgeon botched the operation and life has never been the same since, because of the pain I was left with I was sent to the pain clinic who then made things worse by putting me on opiates so now I am completely addicted to them and have been on the medication for about 16 years with no way forward as no one has held up their hand and said we can get you off this stuff, it just seems to go round and round

Hello Christine

I was just reading back/catching up with the community and I felt you are left going round and round. I believe you can come off some of your meds whilst understanding how hard it is and really requires someone, preferable a health care professional, working one to one with you.

Best wishes
