Hi I am posting on behalf of a friend. Her 80 year old mother lives in another town and my friends has to walk 3 hours each day to and care fr her. I have explained that she should claim carers allowance but she does not know how to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for reading

Hi Toria, welcome to this community. Take a look at the 'Pinned Posts' box on the right side of this screen. There is a link to Carer's Allowance that contain more information and a further link to the Government website, which I think you will find helpful. Hopefully you find other folks on here who will give you some good advice and support. You are not alone. Best Wishes

Hi Toria1, I would suggest you contact AgeUK who can put you in touch with people who can assess needs and fill forms in for carers in many cases, some larger towns have drop in centers for carers too who offer a lot of good advice. Local council can usually help but it often takes longer. There may even be a free service for transport where your freind and her mother live. Hope this was useful for you and can help your freind.

Your friends mother can claim Attendance Allowance which she can then use towards the cost of her care. I downloaded the form and helped my Mum in law complete it.

I'm not familiar with carers allowance so I agree with others, best get advice from CAB.
