Hello, I’ve recently been diagnosed with colitis and also experienced some Psoriasis. Some people seem to think this all leads back to the liver. I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience and if there are tests available to see what I can possibly do?
colitis and Psoriasis: Hello, I’ve... - British Liver Trust
colitis and Psoriasis
Have you had any blood tests done? If so were any of your liver enzymes elevated?
If they were elevated, then perhaps they are related. If not, then there is no suggestion that anything is wrong with your liver.
Psoriasis is more likely to occur if you had eczema in your earlier years, colitis is linked to any one of a number of things including food intolerances, autoimmune conditions, getting older, certain medications. If you no symptoms of liver disease, no elevated liver function tests, no issues with alcohol then you have no reason to be concerned over your liver
Colitis no but psoriasis yes linked straight back to my liver, E45 cream does help for me it stops the midnight itches which are so annoying .
Stay safe All

my husband has just been told he’s got colitis- he’s post transplant 6 years this year - his liver is high and has been for last few years - but thought it was his medication - it was only found because he had to be admitted to hospital and stayed in for nearly 4 weeks, they did biopsies- it was found and also that he had CMV which 5 + years after transplant is unusual . Still having treatment now - so worth asking your consultant or doctor if it’s linked - good luck xx
Hi Nick, I think the general answer here is that if you have one immune system related cindition there is a higher risk that you could have or could developer another. However, its not always the case that psoriasis or colitis will result in a liver condition. Some of the meds that may be prescribed could have an impact on the liver, but that is common for a lot if meds and its the reason that they'll use liver blood tests within your overall monitoring regime. They can though also help identify if a seperate liver disease is developing.
