Hi, I have been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. I'm 54 (f) and live with my 25 year old son (divorced). I've just realised I don't have life insurance (I know!), and wanted to ask if anyone has experience of decent companies who won't rip me off. I'm worried sick about leaving my son with extra distress. I'm still working full time but have no savings. Any advice on insurance companies who are honest (and don't give false promises), would be so appreciated.

I found it almost impossible getting accepted for travel insurance, had to pay over the odds to staysure in the end. I can only imagine how difficult it would be getting life insurance. Best wishes and good luck! 🤞

Hi, I’m 55 with multiple liver diseases but not at the cirrhosis stage. Last time we remortgaged I tried to get life insurance but got turned down because of my health conditions. I think you might find it expensive if you do find an insurer who will take you. It might be better to take some financial advice about other ways you could provide for your son. My Mum died of PBC 2 years ago aged 75. She was brilliant about lessening the burden for me and my brother. She got power of attorney in place (it’s easy on gov.uk) so that we could make decisions for her and knew what her wishes were, she got her funeral all planned and she decluttered like crazy so that we didn’t have too much to sort out after she went. You’re obviously a great Mum and you will clearly leave a wonderful legacy of love and happy memories with your son, regardless of whether you leave a life insurance policy. Hopefully not for a long time to come.

You won't get life insurance that pays out a meaningful amount. You could get the over 50s life cover that does not have medical or health questions but that only covers funeral costs and only pays out if you don't croak in the first year of the policy.
