i am just wondering if anybody else is experiencing the same issues as i am. i do not overly exercise just walking reasonably really but i keep getting really bad pains in my shins with water retention in my ankles. it seems to be for a week in my left leg. goes for a week then returns for a week in my right leg. my gp has no idea and said just apply diclofenac, any ideas greatly appreciated, its been happening for 4 months.

If it is down the front of your shins it sounds exactly like shin splints. Very painful & disappears on its own. I get it when I've been walking a lot. My brother gets it too.
It always only seems to affect one leg at a time
You can't really treat it just try & ease the pain.
thanks bigbluemonkey. i have walked for miles for years and never had problems like this. i do get a red patch and protruding veins, there is also a slight build up of fluid at my ankle.
