hi . I’m becoming more and more worried that once I’m called for my first surveillance of my chirrhosis that I’ll know the doctor and people there as I k ow a lot of the staff in the hospital. I’m wondering if there’s any way I could ask for my scans elsewhere? Tia

Hi there. Why are you worried about thy they will know or how they will react to you. The clinicians should keep your confidentiality at all times. It’s always hard knowing people when you you have medical problems. You could always ask only to be seen by the same person and ask for everything to be discreet. Please don’t worry too much.

But if you are that concerned then see if you can be seen somewhere else

Thank you . Yes just worried about the stigma it brings as on my notes it does say alcohol induced. X

Hi, I think I’d ask my GP to refer me to a different hospital. It shouldn’t matter, it should all be confidential, but we all know about the stigma. I’d like to say hold your head high and say stuff it, it’s an illness, I’m entitled to be treated the same as anyone else. But it’s your career too…

You have the right to be treated at another hospital. Ask Occupational Health to help have you treated else where. Having said That I worked at a latge hospital where just about everyonr and their dog new I had cirosis. The truth is no one cared less. They cared that I was doing well and gave loads of moral support.

I would not worry, going by my experience, although I did have my treatment at a different hospital. Just a personal choice.

Good luck and no need to worry.
