low lft readings

Hi all, this is my first post.

My Hubby went to gp with chest pain and she decided to do a full blood test. Everything was ok except all his liver markers were low. She sent us to hospital for further tests and liver levels are still low. He has a liver ultrasound booked for Monday. Dr said she hasn’t seen such low levels in someone his age (31). All info online seems to be able high levels so just wondering if anyone can help? He’s generally healthy and a non drinker/smoker etc. thanks

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage - as you've read - the low LFT's are unlikely to mean much especially in a young, fit male with no smoking or drinking history. It's when LFT's are significantly raised that cause red flags - he may just have naturally lower LFT's.

Obviously the scan is just a precaution to check there is no damage to his liver as very occasionally low LFT's can occur in a severely damaged liver but this is unlikely to be the case in someone displaying no liver symptoms. Doctor is just being cautious as obviously things can damage the liver even in non drinkers/non smokers and potentially not be picked up.

Hey Katie! Thanks so much for such a quick reply! I think we both have ourselves very anxious about what it could be, esp when the dr couldn’t offer much info other than saying it could be damage/disease, it all came out of the blue and they asked him to be seen sooo quickly… but I suppose it is good they are checking everything even if that causes more worry for now. I did wonder what they might do if the ultrasound is ok. But I guess we will have to wait and see.
