Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

No parkrun for me today. I picked up Covid at the weekend while visiting UTS’s old hockey club in Beckenham. There were lots of people we haven’t seen for years , so lots of hugging going on. Beware it hasn’t gone away.
Fortunately I’m beginning to feel a bit better now but am still testing positive so UTS went off without me.
But I hope everyone else had a great Saturday morning and look forward to reading your posts.
Morning everyone 😀 PR no 160 for me today, and back to Ashton Court. Very warm and very sunny at 9am, and a good turnout.
My hayfever started in earnest yesterday, and I suspect the tablet I took this morning contributed to my legs feeling like jelly! I remember that from past years. 🤧 They didn’t prevent me from running up the entire hill though, and I was pleased to see my splits over the first 2k (which include the two steepest bits) were a total of 10 seconds quicker than last week. My overall time was a tad slower I believe, but my focus at the moment is hills, so a win for me. 🙏
Rugby this afternoon. Bristol Bears vs Saracens. I know very little about rugby, but I love live sport so it’ll be fun 🏉
I did, thanks Coddfish . Yes, I know it’s something you love. I get the general idea as my dad was a huge rugby fan, but for the most part it went over my head! Wonderful atmosphere, even though the result didn’t go Bristol’s way. 🏉 Enjoy Twickers next weekend. 😀
Stretford for us today. ! It starts off with a lap and a bit of the running track, two laps of the park and back to the running track to the finish.I took it gently because I hurt my ribs a week and a half ago and haven't run since. I was expecting to walk some of it at least but ran it all in 39.13 so very pleased, especially as it is so warm today. Lucky that a lot of the park was shaded by trees.
Thanks Damienair. As hurt ribs go, I don't think they have been too bad. I was just nervous about making it worse, especially as we are planning our Q parkrun next week ( last UK alphabet). But strangely as I was getting changed, there seemed to be a slight "crack or creak" and it has felt a lot better since. Maybe I was avoiding gardening under false pretences 😀
Congratulations on getting a sub 40 minute 5K at Stretford parkrun today Sue, regarding your ribs, I am sure it won't be long before that soreness is completely gone.
Hello Damien. I have been in the not park run wilderness for a few weeks as my short runs have mainly been sub 5k. I was up in the woods again today for a Speed- Durance run with Sally McRae. Basically a 10 k pace tempo run sandwiched between 2 sets of 3 intervals at 5k pace. The sun was shining, birds were singing…it felt like the start of Summer.
5k took 33:23, which is my best 5k time for years I think. AHR was 134 bpm, and to top it off Garmin decided that my VO2 Max had returned to Superior! It won’t stay there for long of course; maybe I should retire whilst I am ahead 😂. Hope everyone has a great day.
Thanks Damien. NRC makes it easier on the brain…counting me into and out of each interval and recording each interval time separately…..running by numbers 🙂 Works though.
Thanks GTFC 🙂. I have fun with VO2max….it doesn’t do to take it too seriously…it gives and it takes away for no apparent reason. My eyes are firmly on a HM PB; that is what this “speed” work is all about. We will see what the next few weeks bring.
This morning I travelled to Athlone to do another inaugural event. The course has changed, so this was first running of the new course which was part of an amazing sports campus. The route was two laps around the campus including an out and back section along a green way. Around 120 people took part and it was a gorgeous morning, not a cloud in the Sky. I came home in 44th place in a time of 27:05, the start was very slow as the path was narrow. I’m very happy with the finish time. Afterwards I met some fellow parkrun tourists and I joined them for a lovely post parkrun coffee Al fresco in the morning sunshine. I even got a volunteer credit for token sorting. Now it’s time to do some gardening.
Good afternoon Damien, on a very warm Saturday morning I ran my 112th parkrun at Springburn Parkrun's 10th birthday, (#21 there) plenty of cake after the run at the finishing line, my time was 31:49 with a +60% age grading of 61:81%, the second 5K this week that I have achieved a +60% age grading, on Wednesday I ran my 182nd (not) parkrun in a time of 32:38 with a age grading of 60:27 %, I am a little surprised but pleased with my time today considering the temperature was around 20C and feeling very warm despite only wearing my 💯 T Shirt 👚 and shorts, but I had plenty of liquid with me, by the way the cake at the end was delicious, yummy 😋
I have a rota of only 4 parkruns I go to, of course I know when there birthdays are and enjoy cake after the run, by the way Springburn parkrun for it's 10th birthday today had a Wizard of Oz theme, many runners and volunteers were dressed in witches mode, there are photos of them on Springburn parkrun's Facebook page.
Hello Damien, Parkrunners, NotParkrunners, Joggers, walkers, its so lovely to have warm weather. Sunshine makes the park look so beautiful. I was back at my home course after a 7 week tourist streak, which has made me fall in love with the world of Parkrun even more.
I got a pb on my home course which is notorious for its hills, 30.40, so I’m getting stronger.
Hello GTFC! Well I really enjoyed visiting Greenwich, it’s a pretty course, but honestly all have been such fun, meeting new people. Seeing how Parkruns are the same, that signature familiarity but with little differences wherever you go. I could bang on about it for ages…but I stop there! 😄
No parkrun today. I am suffering my second outbreak of gout in 5 weeks. My kidneys were damaged by an immune attack last September (resulting from immunotherapy to treat my cancer), and as a result make too much uric acid. This forms crystals which break out through the joints from time to time. So I am stuck on parkrun 248. On the plus side, MrC ran today, so has made up one of the 3 he had been behind me. As we can’t get to parkrun on either of the next 2 Saturdays, I am timekeeping on 1st June, and we can’t get to either of the next 2, the earliest date for my 249 is June 22nd. I will probably then volunteer the following week so Mr C can fully catch up and we can both do our 250ths together on July 6th, weather and health permitting.
Having watched the video, I think it’s unlikely. Queen Elizabeth with the extra jeopardy of narrow paths and vertiginous side drops, plus bits where it looked like it was close to a scramble. Book in 6th July as a tentative joint 250.
I finally got round to doing a parkrun this morning, and at a fairly new venue, Cycle Route 43, Ystalyfera, which is near Swansea but more importantly even closer to me 😁 It was only the third run at this venue, it was well supported with around 170 runners and some pretty quick times, its an out and back route and slopes very gently on the way out and therefore a gentle climb to the finish although I didn't notice any difference, I finished with a watch time of 29:17 and a bar code time of 29:31, there was a relaxed and very welcoming atmosphere, I will definitely be returning to this venue on a regular basis👍
Quite an eventful Worcester Parkrun. I marshalled again due to my knee injury and the sun definitely had its hat on. Unfortunately, the run director took a tumble en route and ended up in the Minor Injuries Unit (he's been patched up). I then saw another chap running with a bloody nose and was using grass to stem the flow. Quite a sight.
Went to my local parkrun yesterday Shroggs Park it's a tough one with two hills, run the whole course and was happy with my run and not a bad time. As I was running this yesterday two lasses were running same pace as me and one said to the other I can't stand hearing people breathing as I'm running the other said same here, I didn't say anything but I made sure I finished before them.
Love to know what do you feel about running and hearing people breathing?
Doesn't bother me I run with someone at times and he's really loud
Very well done on your parkrun. Hearing people breathing whilst they are running is perfectly normal and natural. I know personally if I'm putting in a strong effort I will be breathing heavily. It does not bother me when I hear other people breathing heavily whilst they are running.
Yeah, hearing someone breathe as they run by you is probably better than hearing nothing and realising you're running alongside an actual Zombie... 🧟♂️
Thank you I absolutely will do, I must admit I did think on Saturday if I should carry on and I absolutely will. Yesterday I slept all afternoon don't feel well today ordered some covid tests as it feels just like that 😪 fingers crossed it's just a little bug I've picked up.
My 42nd parkrun this week. Sunny, cool, slight breeze, dry course. Perfect weather conditions. I am 70% through a "5K improvement" course on WithU. Given the conditions, I thought it would be a good day to check if the training was having any effect. Also, I needed to finish quickly, as I had volunteered to do Barcode Scanning afterwards. So, off I went....and finished in a PB for this year! Yay! And, I conquered my stated goal for this year - 72% Age Grading. Hurrah!
Thank you damienair. I must say, I was very surprised and well chuffed! All the ducks (night-before food, sleep, hydration level, warm up routine, stress level, temperature, humidity, pollen levels) were lined up for me on Saturday. A very rare occurance. I think the advice I have learned about running posture has been important too. Slight lean forward, shoulders back and relaxed, arms working like pistons at the side.
