Dorney lake.

Hi all. Currently on week 4 on the 10k plan. Looking for new routes, I wonder if any one in the slough/reading/Windsor area has ever ran around dorney lake? Im keen to try it as it's a perfect flat run I've heard. Im wondering if it's open on Sundays and at what time? Can't find opening times in the website.

I ran there a couple of months ago. The car park opened reasonably early I seem to think - 8.30?. I did mess up the parking payment - thought I had paid but hadn't, so read the signage carefully! It's flat for sure, but it's a bit featureless. I did peel off through a trail at the side at one point to try to get some variety.

Is Denham/Uxbridge too far? I've been running along the Grand Union canal in the stretches from the Colne valley regional park up to Rickmansworth. It's flat too but wayyyy more scenic :)

Thanks Linda. Might pay a visit tomorrow morning.

I’m booked to do my first ever Half Marathon there in three weeks time. I’m looking forward to it and scared witless at the same time. I live miles and miles away so am interested to hear what it’s like. The organisers have said it’s very flat.

It's totally flat apart from a slight bridge with an up and down. It's on smooth path rather than on grass - assuming you do laps of the lake. It will probabaly be more fun as a half marathon because there will be more to look at! I went early in the moring and it was empty pretty much and less tree lined than I expected too. I did take a photo which you can see in one of my posts healthunlocked.com/marathon...

Good luck. I hope you enjoy it 🙂

Oh my, it looks a bit barren. I thought there would be more trees. I hope I'm not too bored!

That's why I think it will be better full of people. Lots to look at - all shapes and sizes, colours and patterns of outfits, nice shoes ... lots of distraction. And I good fast time on that flat course. There may even be stuff happening on the lake to watch too :)

Is that Eton Dorney, where I saw lots of gold medals being won in the rowing in 2012?

It is. I usually run down the long walk in Windsor but fancied a change.
