Nervous

I had a marker put in on Friday, ready for my operation in the morning, as the hospital I’m having my operation in doesn’t have the same equipment as the one I’ve been going to. They will then put two wires in either same of the marker about 2.5cm and remove in the middle. My tumour doesn’t show up on ultra sounds or scans it’s invisible unless I have a dye, which this other hospital doesn’t have, so I’m so nervous as they said they only take 1mm around the tumour now too!! He thinks I may have pre cancerous cells around it which would mean further operation. So nervous right now... still not told my kids. As don’t want to tell then until I know what is next, especially with them only loosing their dad 4 years ago.

Hi there. Is there a reason the first hospital is not performing the surgery? I suggest you ask to speak to the breast cate team and tell them your worries prior to your surgery. They should be able to put your mind at ease. You do not need stress going into surgry, the diagnosis and operation are stressful without having added concerns. All the best with your surgery, Lainry66 xxx

Good advice from Lainey. It can’t be easy keeping such a big secret. Wish you all the best for a speedy recovery.

Hi Tricia

I can understand why you are uneasy. You need to talk to them about your worries and make sure they provide you with proper reassurance. Its a really tough time for you right now and you dont need this on top. Try and take a trusted friend with you if possible so they can listen to what's said, as given where you are, it can be difficult to remember everything. I wish you every good luck for the coming days. Lots of hugs Caroline.xx

Hi. The morning of mine I had to go to a different hospital part of the same trust to have the dye injected then off to the other hospital checked in sent down to ultrasound had the wires put in back to the ward and then off to theatre and home in time for dinner xx I had a titanium marker in my breast as they put it in when I had initial mammogram and then a biopsy was taken. My cancer was deep in the tissue. I didn’t get clear margins and had to have a re excision 3 weeks after 1st surgery. I didn’t find surgery to tough so good luck xx

Hi I had the dye put in at a different hospital the morning of my operation as I believe it has a form of radioactive material in it to show up on the machine once that was done headed to the ward booked in sent down to have the wire put in back to the ward then down to theatre back on the ward cup of tea something to eat and then home by 6.30pm. I had my marker put in on the day of my mammogram as I then had an ultrasound and biopsy. I didn’t get clear margins and had a re excision 3 weeks later. This can happen to anyone. Truthfully in my opinion the surgery for me has been the easiest part of this entire journey try not to worry xx

Just waiting results now, I’m just upset that it took so long now for things to happen, I was referred 9th November. I’m scared that because things taken so long that there’s a chance it’s not contained anymore. I’m worried for my kids, they lost their dad 4 years ago because it had spread because things just took to long... I’m just scared

I think fear is one of the biggest enemies in all this and is natural. A strategy I used to give a bit of respite from it sounds silly but worked for me is this. Imagine you are holding a balloon on a long string, in your head write down all the things your scared off, tie it to the balloon and let the string go watching it until it is out of sight taking your worry with it. Or imagine putting your worries in a box, climbing the stairs, pulling down a loft ladder, climbing it and pushing the box to the farthest, darkest corner. Then come out, close the loft hatch , climb back down the ladder and leave them there. Like I said sounds daft but may help. Hope you are feeling ok, we are all always here. Hugs Carolyn x
