Hmmmm not sure....

Hello ladies, visited the oncologist yesterday and he says there is only a 5 per cent chance my cancer will come back. This is very good news! And I'm thrilled. He then says radiation therapy but no tamoxifen because there is only two women in every hundred with this type of cancer that would be helped by it and there is a one to two per cent chance that I would developer another type of cancer on it. Basically the good and bad are in such equal measure he doesn't think I should take it. Do other people know of this change in procedures? I must admit I found the thought of tamoxifen "keeping away my cancer" comforting emotionally. Anyone got any thoughts please?

Hi Hidden

What a quandary, when they tell you something other than what you were expecting. What type of Cancer did you have?

I had TNBC so no other options than Chemotherapy, I had a Mastectomy with no lymph node involvement so l didn't need Radiotherapy, however the tumour was Grade Three, Stage Three & my chances were increased by 11% if l had Chemo.

Some of the other ladies who were ER+ will come along with information for you.

Best of Luck with your Radiotherapy & gather more information re the Tamoxifen before you see your Oncologist next time.

Best Wishes 💐

hi .. I also would research the medication and the statistics . I am on a different one .letrozole .so can't help in that .. I had 2 primary tumours 3+ in the left breast with a spread to the lymph nodes .. And a tiny one in the right .. Had double mastectomy '. Chemo & radiotherapy .. Try and keep positive in whatever you do ..

Just keep asking the questions till you feel you have the answers you need .. Good luck X

Hi, not an easy decision to make, is there a support group nearby that you could go to, see if anyone there has some advice for you, you never know someone there may have been through the same issues, however it works out for you I wish you well x

Hi ladies, thank you. I think I'll go on a fact finding mission if possible. I'll let you know what I find out. Off for my tattoos tomorrow, 240 mile round trip. Snow forecast - the joys! Xxx
