Colonoscopy Help

I will be having to have a Colonoscopy at some point. I need to pluck up the courage first! I had one 19 years ago and the prep was horrendous so I have been totally put off having a repeat performance! I was wondering if the prep has been improved? I was purged so much the last time I thought there would be nothing left of me! I felt like I was going to die! I will have quite a distance to travel to get to the hospital for the Colonoscopy and I'm worried the prep will still be active and I will have diarrhoea on route! Could someone please let me know if I could take a Loperamide just before the start of the journey to give me some peace of mind? Would that work and would it be ok for the Colonoscopy? Many thanks for any help with this. All this is worrying me!

Hi, I’ve had lots of colonoscopies and to be honest I’ve never needed to take loperamide afterwards and I wouldn’t to be honest. If you take the prep at the time they tell you too you should be ok.As for the prep it’s horrible for sure but I don’t know how it compares to when you first had it.

Good luck with it 🙏🏻

Thank you Angep for your reply. Right so I shouldn't need to take Loperamide before the journey to go for the Colonoscopy. Wish there was another way rather than having to take the prep and having the examination. Sending you my best wishes.

Hello,I just had colonoscopy.(I'm in Japan)I had 3 times in these 5 years after I got Ischemic Colitis and worried.I was told to drink whole prep in the morning,(other laxative the night before)

After colonoscopy was over,I didn't need to take loperamide type medication.

Tech person said he was doing clean up at the same time he was looking,So,you will be fine! :)

Sorry about my English though.

Wow cat lady that sounds good. It's the prep I'm worried about taking. I had it many years ago and it was terrible. They think Ive got ibd but don't know which one. Thank you for the reassurance it's very kind of you. I have a cat too! Your English is perfect. Best wishes 🙂

I worried on route too,so I wore a pad just in case.I just looked up online "how to make prep tolerable"then found "take prep with straw"! I should have done that. The prep I took tasted terrible,(It depends on country and hospital,I guess)Taking it with straw sure make it easier taste wise.I will try next time.

Best Wishes to you too!

It was the effect of the prep. It purged so strongly I thought there would be nothing left of me!

Oh,I see,I kinda like it as I have IBS-C,I feel clean inside, which is rare for me.Though it's so intense.(sorry cat is attacking me ATM)

I don't know what to do about that..

Oh I don't like it. I don't know what ibd I have but don't want to have a colonoscopy. If I want to get it sorted I'll need to have it though. Why do you have to have other colonoscopies now that you know the diagnosis? Oh your cats naughty attacking you. My cat is all black long hair, he's three now. doesn't attack.

I have IBS-C diagnosis, but I got Ischemic Colitis on 2016.since then,I sometimes have abdomen pain around same area affected by Ischemic Colitis. Also,my family has Cancer history.

.In Japanese system,we cannot get free government cancer screening if we have any symptoms. That's why I am getting checks at hospital.(I have a 3mm polyp.Doctor say it is small and not changing,so they don't chop it)

My Cat,5 years old Tabby boy,is Super naughty!(On my Avatar)He must be hunter cat or barn cat,if he was born different place, but unfortunately he was born in Tokyo. So,he's hunting me.:/🐈

Your cat seems to be a good boy!😻

Hoping your issues will be sorted!

Right they are checking the polyp. Good it's staying stable. That's a pity you don't have free cancer screening. I'm in Scotland. Unfortunately my sister has just been diagnosed with cancer. She is very ill. I am so worried. I keep thinking about it all the time. Yes so far Inky is being a good cat.

Your English is spot on.

Depending on where you live, I’m in the US. I had one this year and they have a whole new way of prepping. I took 4 Dulcolax laxatives, then 4 hours later, you start the liquid portion. The results were great and I only had to do one bottle BC my body only needed 1 bottle to clean itself out!

Thank you for your reply. I'm in Scotland. It's the liquid prep I don't like it seems far too strong! 😳 Best wishes.
