BC pharmacare not paying for romosozumab

I am from BC Canada. My GP gave me a prescription for romosozumab/Evenity. I have 6 fractures of the spine the last few months and treating lymphoma also. I've been told by pharmacy that I would have to pay full price $666 per month till my $2,000 deductible is filled and then pharma care does not cover it anyways. Also, been told a GP in Canada cannot prescribe this drug but only a endocrinologist . I am waiting for a phone call next week from the manufacture/pro vital -to see if they will fund the 3 months they have offered to pay. But, no use applying for that if I can't continue on the drug. Unless, they have some solutions for me.

I have an appointment with my GP on Monday to get an appointment with an endocrinologist which will probably be a year at least.

I have a private medical plan which has asked for the endocrinologist to fill out paper work but they gave heads up that they would only pay 50% -80% of the cost.

Anyone else in BC experiencing this? Otherwise, I am just passing on to others for heads up on osteoporosis meds which most of them are not covered fully in BC unless someone can point me in the right direction or correct my statement. I am so disappointed.

I asked if cancer clinic could cover the costs as I have had 4 different cancers in 8 yrs but I was told no. but ,the cancer is in tailbone, sacrum and still in T12 and causing fractures I think.

I have -4 bone scan in my spine

For now, I wear a full body brace back and front design.. I walk 2.6 km a day thro the pain and take vitamins.

I'm no help I'm afraid but just wanted to send you a big hug. I hope you can find an affordable solution to your issues.

thanks, it been a real journey , I'v been strong all these last 8 yrs, never complaining, the last straw was when I heard in Canada we can't supply osteoporosis drugs to me when I have worked all my life, never been on welfare, nor done drugs, drink.

But, if I was on street drugs, I would in fact receive this drug or another osteoporosis for free. along with other stuff to help me cope or get high. Which is how I feel like I need to after this.

I am very sad and upset .

i’m in Vancouver BC I’m 68-year-old male with osteoporosis, which is slowly been reversed after a 2 years on Prolia, (which caused 4 rebound fractures plus my sacrum after abrupt dicontinuation 6/years ago) started again with Forteo then a year of Evenity , then a year of Reclast, now doing a second round on Evenity with great success.

I’m sure you’ll be able to get some support from Pro Vital,

and if you have insurance, typically they’ll pick up the other part.

In my case $693 was insurance, $132 was Pro Vital.

it was well worth the cost to be on both Forteo, which was incredibly expensive and then with the vanity because I’ve recovered most of the bone loss and still have some issues, but I did have Verteoplasty and sacroplasty done which certainly made a difference.

probably is still a consideration, but once you’re on it, you have to stay on it. I gained most of the bone on Prolia,

what ended up getting terrible skin rashes after a couple of years. The challenging part our healthcare system is getting to see a specialist, I saw a Dr. Kendler or have been seeing him for years, which is where I get my DEXA scans done it’s at the Provitalclinic on Broadway, perhaps your GP can give you a recommendation your case is certainly an urgent one. I feel terrible for you. I know what the pain is like and I’m not even 10% of what you’re going through. If you want to reply to this privately, I would be happy to talk to you on the phone if I can be of any help.

thanks, after calming down and after researching all weekend all my options , I did in fact find that same phone number you sent and will phone this morning.

I THANK YOU so much for that information though. I am still upset but know being upset does not help my situation at all. So as I have always done through these journeys of this diagnosis and cancer is to buckle up and quit whining and get on with research.

thanks again
