Hi Radars, I hope you are doing ok as it’s been a while since you last posted. I have booked to see a private physio today it’s a full rehabilitation place where they have their own gym and studio so I will ask him today as I want to find some safe exercises/ stretches for my back so I will let you know how it goes and what advice he has to offer I know my case is very different to yours but I have osteoporosis so hopefully he will be able to help as I’m so scared of doing anything that will make my pain worse so I want someone professional to tell me what to do to try and help me build up as I’ve just been wasting away since my surgery but I hope today is helpful as I need some hope xx

hi,mystar that sounds good to see someone who knows what they are doing, won't going private cost a lot, with severe osteoporosis we have to try and be more careful regarding exercises, good luck, I am at the dentist today for a checkup prior to my second infusion, my dentist is now private so cost a fortune, hope you get on ok.xx

my Mum went to physio at rehab at the hospital. later has had physio asset home.

the physio at home said not to do one of the exercises that she was given at the hospital!

so, i've noticed physios are usually great,

but there's specialty within the speciality.

i don't know about squats.

even Mum's g.p said not to do a kicking exercise

THANKS I was watching Margaret Martin video and she said walking does not strengthen the lumbar spine, only the hips,

It’s hard to find exercises that will build lumbar density, but it’s still good to strengthen back muscles to support the spine and protect us IF we fall. I have been working consistently with a physical therapist and a personal trainer for the past 18 months.the therapist, paid by Medicare, helped me with some back discomfort and safe moves. The trainer directs me through safe but increasingly challenging exercises, including various forms of squats. We work very hard on back strengthening, without flexing or twisting, and he prompts me about using my core and proper positioning. Even so, that combined with additional supplements and food choices over this time, my lumbar dexa T score continues to decline, now -3.7, but my hips are stable. I think it’s easier to target the hips with weight bearing exercises. That plus I walk and run daily. I must add that I have not fractured, and a vertebral fracture assessment looked normal, so I cannot weigh in on someone doing this plan if they have fractured.

thanks, I have a mild to moderate wedge compression fracture of t12, I am going to try to see if I can use a 5lb dumbell because it's only weight training that strengthen the bones. also I have got osteoarthritis in my hip.

I was told by Physio that the most effective way to protect and increase the strength of your spine is to do weighted walking for minimum of 30 minutes. Anybody that can give an opinion on this?
