I was talking to a nurse at the royal osteoporosis society and I asked about phytates and oxalates blocking calcium absorption, and she said that they don't block all the calcium, anyone say different.

Ask two people the same question and you’re likely to get two different answers.

You haven’t asked Dr Google, it’s a ROS Nurse that’s given you this information.

It’s also mentioned on the ROS website.

well surely the ros nurse is correct, what do you think. the majority of food and supplements contain phytates and oxalates what can you do starve.

The nurse is correct. There's a load of misinformation out there on Dr Google. As you say, so many foods contain phytates and oxalates, but they don't stop us absorbing calcium, just reduce it a little. There's a good article here (scroll down to 4th myth): badgut.org/information-cent...

Hi Radars, to agree with other commenters - yes, the osteoporosis nurse is correct. That foods containing oxalates wont block all of calcium absorption.

Though interestingly, the way you prepare your food e.g. rhubarb or spinach (which contain oxalates and calcium) can make a difference to the amount of oxalates in your meal. So if you were to boil the rhubarb it will reduce the the amount oxalates.

Thanks, but don't eat rhubarb or spinach, I eat Ezekiel bread that reduces phytates and oxalates from other foods.

Oh I haven’t tried Ezekiel bread. How does it reduce phytates and oxalates?
