Tooth Turned Gray

I'm 62 years old, diagnosed with osteoporosis about a year ago. My bones are admittedly terrible, and I know (I think) that osteoporosis by itself can affect your jaw, and in turn, teeth. My teeth aren't amazing--thin enamel-- and my gums receded quite a bit starting well before osteoporosis would have been an issue. More recently, things have been pretty stable, though, so I was surprised the other day to see that one of my molars had turned black/gray.

I know osteonecrosis of the jaw is a thing with bisohosphonates. I've read that it tends to occur after tooth extractions, but conditions that would lead to this outcome would have to exist prior to having a tooth extracted, right? If it's caused by decreased blood flow to the jaw, and teeth can go gray because of decreased blood flow to the jaw, then it seems like it/bisohosphonates could well affect your teeth before one is ever extracted. I saw one article that suggested your teeth could feel loose, your jaw might ache, with osteonecrosis of the jaw, but haven't seen anything associating discoloration (dying tooth?) with fosamax, which I've been taking.

So...I'm asking y'all. Probably this is just another fun feature of getting old that also is kind of unique to me with respect to my family, so I just don't know. Yes, I will be calling my dentist today. I just wondered if anyone had experienced similar, or knows anything about this kind of thing.

Thanks!

Don't know if it helps but my cuz just had front tooth out, had gone grey and crumbled, she has OP too. Dentist said must have been damaged long ago, who knows? She had to wait nearly a year for a new one, went private. Hope your dentist can sort you out and it's just a localised problem. 🤞

Thanks for your response. :-) Dentist thinks it's just a filling...apparently my enamel has thinned that much more, so filling is showing through. No pain, so...ugly (fortunately I don't usually smile too widely?) but no big deal. Still, I felt I should check because I have a tendency to ignore or not insist on more attention if I don't ignore it: that's how I got here, eh? (My OP was far, far advanced before it was finally diagnosed.) Need to stop doing that even if I feel stupid. 😪

Hi Josei. I noticed my teeth turning greyish about the time the Dr said I had op. I have tried diet, exercise, lifestyle, exercise and supplements to change things. Two years later I have made things better, reversed osteopororosis if you will. Hip -2.9 to -2.4. so many pieces to the puzzle, but I really noticed a difference in my teeth a few months after I started taking the K2-MK7 supplement. They stopped looking like those old lady teeth but like that young woman dense teeth

Good luck with your journey. We all have to be our own advocate

I'm in the US so don't know about availability for you, but I use Mary Ruths organic olive oil drops. They say you should consume the fat soluble vitamins with fat so being in olive oil works for me. I take it alone so it doesn't compete with the D3 I take a few hours earlier.
