Tens machine

does anyone have any relief from pain with a tens machine. I’m in severe pain as soon as I stand or walk, my fractures from osteoporosis are old, or I thought the pain went when they healed?

I too thought once fractures healed the pain would subside but find that standing, walking more than a few mins is agony, have to sit down quick. I’m guessing it’s arthritis causing pain by interfering with nerves. Got Baclofen for ?muscle spasms so I can stand long enough for quick shower but frankly don’t help much. So I just do things in bits. Re Tens machine, I thought they’d been withdrawn as proved don’t work, but one friend swore by it, so whatever works for you. Perhaps ask doc? 🤔

I have tried a TENS machine a couple of times in the past - first time in the 1980s and more recently in 2020 when I broke both bones in my wrist. I didn’t find it any help either time and I just found it really irritating. . My husband used one before he had a hip replacement a few years ago and found it helpful although he ultimately needed a new hip.

Could you have fractured again? Or could the pain be being made worse because of the cold and damp? That certainly makes my bones ache.

I find Volterol and a couple of paracetamol the most helpful things and a soak in a hot bath if I’m having a spell of pain, I also like those stick on Deep Heat patches for generally warming me up which helps me feel better.

After having several spinal fractures four years ago I still get pain even though they have healed. I asked my consultant why I’m still in pain he said although they’ve healed they don’t go back to the position where they were before and that’s what causes the pain. For me I have additional pain because I lost 4 inches in height so the bottom of my ribs now rub constantly on my iliac crest. I have no gap between the two so it’s bone rubbing on bone. I can only think that this will get worse. I’m going to look into whether a rib removal will help.

thanks mollysuki, I’m sorry to hear that, the pain is hard to live with, hope your rib removal works for you x

I have found a TENS to be very useful in helping with back pain.

Just to say that I did try tens but for me it didn’t work but for my friend it worked. When you’re in pain it’s worth trying anything! Good luck 🤞🏻

Hello angie26

Tens machine worked for me after 8 spinal fractures 5 years ago - still use it if I do a long car trip. For me it dissipated the pain so I didn't get to a point of too many stabbing / shooting pains and crying out etc.

Hope you find something that helps you.

Best Wishes

thank you so glad it’s helping you, is it an immediate help? X

For me it was a 'fairly' immediate help - I now use it when I know I will need it - as mentioned longer car journeys.

I ordered my tens machine a while ago when I was diagnosed with tendinitis in my rotator cuff. I find it helps with anything muscular but not on joints themselves. It will relax my muscles which helps my tendon. It also helps when I have tight neck muscles .

thank you for that glad it helps you, I tried mine tonight for the first time and nearly freaked it was on setting 1 and it seemed so powerful 🥴

It takes a while to get used to but I wouldn't put the stickers right over a bone. It can be irritating.

Have used a tens machine for over 20 years on and off. I also find it best for muscle pain, nerve pain and general aches. Helps at night to sleep, but takes a while to match different programs to different sorts of pain. Good luck with it.
