Thank you so much for replying and the link. It certainly is painful and keeps coming back. How long have you had it and how did it start? Apart from Ibuprofen is there anything you are finding helpful? I had not heard of Costochondritis before my GP diagnosed after I went after it starting with a twisting movement early September and another slight twist a month later. I went to GP because I though I was having a heart attack one night.

I developed it in 2013 when having treatment for Breast Cancer. I've had it on and off ever since. I can't have Ibuprofen, but have Fentanyl Patches, Oramorph and Paracetamol for spinal fractures and osteoarthritis. All the best X

Thank you, I am trying to get as much information as I can so that I know exactly what I should be doing. I hate taking painkillers!

I have just read your response to another post and just wanted to say how much you are helping others, I am so very sorry you have been through so much. I do wish you well and hope there are lots of things that you find to help.

AW thank you so much for your appreciative comment. I've had so much help from others on here, it's the least I can do to help others. Bless you. 😗💐

I had costochondritis following a car accident and trauma to my chest. My physio carried out six sessions of laser treatment which helped enormously. Fortunately the condition did in time ease. I can remember how severe the pain was, I could hardly move. I do hope you find a way of easing your pain and that the condition for you isn’t long term.

Thank you for replying to my post, I have been finding it difficult to get the information that I need in order to do everything I can to help myself. I am concerned that both times it happened were very small movements, once turning to the side while doing a suduko! and the other stopping a sandwich falling!! It then gradually got worse. It seems very few people know anything about this condition. I have osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and find Pilates and brisk walking helpful but at the moment I can't do either. Can you tell me who suggested laser treatment if you are in England?

Many thanks

We were hit by a car running into the back of our car, I was a front seat passenger, I needed physio treatment because of injuries sustained in the accident. It was the physio who recommended laser treatment, he said it would speed up the recovery process. Not all physiotherapist offer this treatment, it depends on them having the equipment and the training. I was lucky, the physio I chose to go to has his practice only ten minutes drive away from our house. I live in the North West of England

Thank you for that, it certainly sounds as if the physio knew what he was doing. I am in Oxfordshire but will ask around re physios.

I hope you are well now.

Yes I am well thank you and I don’t have any recurrence of the costochondritis. I did suffer fractures in the car accident but they are healed and do not cause any ongoing pain.

I had open heart surgery. They replaced my aortic valve. Six weeks later I got sharp pain at bottom of my ribs. I couldn’t move for several minutes. It let up, but only if I stayed still. Dr. gave me injection for pain. Cardiologist shrugged his shoulders and didn’t care since his job was done. Family dr. gives me a shot when it flares up,and said sometimes medicine can only treat symptom, but he called my pain costochondritis. Four years later I still feel soreness when touching bottom ribs, but only had to get shot once this year. I know shots are bad for osteoporosis. I also got a rib belt from amazon and use it when pain flares up. It helps me do my daily chores and exercises. I am now 79 years old. Hope you are better

Thank you so much to all of you who have replied to my post, it is so important to know that others understand what you are talking about! Not sure that a rib belt would help as when mine flares up my whole rib area hurts as if it has swollen and I sometimes need to undo my bra! I will keep looking for advice and wish you all well and without pain.

What a wonderful help this forum is.
