Headache with Magnesium supplements?

I just started taking magnesium. Nature’s Plus organic tablets.

Citrate,ascorbate,, lysinate,oxide.

Couldn’t remember the best combination to buy when in the Health shop, but the owner had used them and recommended.

Took my first one before bed to help with sleep. I woke up with a terrible headache which lasted all day. Had to take paracetamol.

Anyone else get headaches with magnesium?

I can’t really afford to bin a 3 month supply, so might try halving the dose to see if that helps.

Thanks.

I stopped taking tablets due to the adverse effects on my IBS, but didn’t experience any headaches. I now use magnesium oil which I rub in. Dr Mercola has written an extensive article on magnesium, but only mentions headaches as a sign of insufficient magnesium. Perhaps you could split the capsule and take it in divided doses - he suggests that as a method to avoid an upset stomach. He also has a recipe for a cheap skin rub. Not sure any of this is much help, I’m afraid.

Thanks for this. Will split the tablet. So, half at night and the other half earlier in the day maybe.

Will search for his article. Did read a post about best type of magnesium to buy, but was in a hurry and in the shop.

In future will use a skin rub.
