Dx osteoporosis t score - 1.4. Breast cancer stage III CHEMO and radiation..receiving femara last 8 years. First dose prolia about 1 week ago...severe migraine type headaches, bone pain, nausea, vomiting and uncontrolled diarrhea. Became unconscious 5 times in 10 minutes while walking in parking lot to work...only remember finding myself waking up on the asphalt. Resulted in fracture left arm, hospitalization, heart monitor for 2 weeks. Cannot drive or be left alone until cleared by cardiology in 2 weeks. Since this drug remains actively destroying my body for the next 6 months, i fear the next episode. Anyone else with these episodes. Remain weakened, unsteady and bone pain.

Hi ,

So sorry to hear your tale. There are people all over the internet with similar woes. It is just amazing to me there are doctors still giving prolia. Keep telling your story, and if you can file an adverse reaction report.

Here's some info. that you may be interested in, Delawarern. I wouldn't take these awful bone meds EVER...had my own awful experience with them...they should all be taken off the market before they do any more harm to people!

I am so sorry to hear your story - despite reservations about any medication my scores at age 58 are so atrocious the hospital consultant at my first appointment just said as soon as I walked in ‘your bones are really terrible’! I don’t feel I have any choice but to do something and this denosumab has not given me any problems so far. I don’t imagine it’s going to stay that way mind you, I just can’t report any side effects so far. I really hope it gets sorted for you in some way though and wish you the very best.

Hi Timothy 0172...sorry too that your bones require a biologic.... as an RN, i realize that everyone reacts differently to various drugs...most favorably yet there are so many instances of very severe reactions... what i understand of prolia and many medications...in order to be very specific to it's design, prolia applies its antibodies onto the fragile/weakeedd bone and signals it to be rebuilt. Unfortunately, some people, as in my response, produce a cascading affect believing this is an invasion or infection and produce additional white cells etc...giving us the appearane/feeling we have an infection or flu etc. Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fevers, changes in blood pressure causing fainting and collapse...also the drug pulls out calcium from the blood which is needed for neurological system and cardiac....then seizures, cardiac events. I just want to never not recommend they not take any drug which has received fda approval for the task at hand. I just had a terrible side effect that has been so life altering right now...i cannot drive nor be left alone...thus i am not able to return to the job that i love. Unable to receive any leave of absence pay as i was working part time. One thing that i have found that 75% reduced my symptoms was benadryl 50mg twice a day...not the non drowy type ...the antihistime calms the response...

Best of luck my friend...

The only problem with taking Benadryl is that it can cause restless leg. It happened to my husband and to my sister.

Yes, that's a true possibility...at this point, the benadryl, tylenol combo is diminishing the symptoms .... I'll deal with the RLS if that occurs. Feel so debilitated with prolia being in my system for only 2 weeks.

So sorry, Delawarern. I know exactly how you feel. The stuff is poison to one's system. I'm wondering if there will be any law suits as a result of this medication.

I had terrible side effects after taking two Prolia shots. After first shot I didn't do well but thought it would pass. I sent letter to doctor to put in my file that I didn't want any more of these shots. Six months later the doctor had his nurse call me and tell me I needed another shot and that it was good medicine and they had already gotten the shot approved thru Medicare for me to have the 2nd one. Like a nut I let them give me another shot. It nearly killed me. My bones and muscles hurt so badly I could hardly get out of the bed and I had to sleep on a heating pad. I researched the drug and found a blog where others had experienced similar side effects. Meanwhile, I had to have a bridge replaced because two teeth suddenly had some decay under the caps on the teeth. I go to dentist every 6 months for cleanings and in all these years had never had a decay problem with those teeth. Then I read on the Prolia blog that others had experienced tooth decay after getting this shot. One person said they contacted the pharma who made the drug to see how long it would take to get the Rx out of their body and the pharma said they really didn't know. I can tell you it took me over a year to recover about 95% from the pain and I still have some bone pain from time to time. It is a poison to one's system.
