Just wondering if anybody can give me some advice. Having been on steroids for 3 years due to PMR and no sign of coming off them I am now suffering with osteoporosis. In the last 2 years I’ve had 2 fractures in my spine and I’ve currently got one in my groin called a pubic fracture. I’ve been prescribed Rise Dronate by my rheumatologist but feel reluctant to take them. I have difficulty swallowing tablets and you have to make sure they don’t stick or you could be in trouble. I’m also reducing my steroids at this time and finding it very hard with the side effects. I just wanted to know if there are any lifestyle changes I could make to try and stop me having any more fractures. I’ve also found that cold weather doesn’t help as I seem more stable in the summer. Thank you for listening to me and look forward to my replies. Kath xx

you could make stinging nettle and/or oatstraw infusions. 2 cups a day will give you about 1000 mg of calcium; more easily digested and absorbed than rock based calcium supplements because it is plant based. It also includes all of the other necessary minerals and vitamins for proper calcium absorption. It also has a good amount of iron. Really amazing herbs. You make an infusion by using 1 cup of the dried herbs in a quart jar, and pour boiling water over it to the top. Let steepovernight. That’s what I’m doing. You can buy bulk bags of the herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs , or from Botanic Universe, online. The herb is viable for 2-3 years, but of course it gets used up quicker than that. In the end, the herbs work out to be cheaper than supplements. Also, check out AlgaeCal online. A plant based supplement that has clinically proven results for improving bone density, but that one is a tablet.

Google the herbs; you’ll be very impressed with them both Ithink.

Also, begin with googling yoga for disabilities. You can even start with yoga you can do in a chair or lying on a bed. Choose those movements that will work for you and stay away from others. Stronger muscles support your bones, as does improved flexibility. YouTube offers yoga teachers that take you through the movements. Just as good as a class. Google “ Yoga for Osteoporosis” : there’s tons of choices.( I just googled that. Lots to choose from. )

Always remember that every little bit will be a step toward improvement.
