Acidic diet and osteoporosis

There is a myth out there that an acid-forming diet can exacerbate bone thinning. This is nicely debunked by this article which discusses how our own body maintains the proper balance between acidity (our stomach) and alkalinity (our blood). Highly acid producing foods like protein are actually of great importance in building and maintaining healthy bone. So-called alkaline diets are healthy because they are largely unrefined (nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruit) not because they make our bodies more alkaline!
