Hi everyone. my partner recently diagnosed with HCC and awaiting which treatment he should have. Either ablation or resection. The hospital called and told him the surgeon is unsure if it is hcc and wants a ct scan done. Now we are wondering what it could be.

Has anyone else had this experience ... Thank you

HiI'm sorry but didn't have that particular situation with my husband Jimmy. We did have the problem that they saw his lesion originally on a CT scan and then didn't see it on the next three CT scans at another location. It was there. They just missed it. How was he diagnosed with HCC? Who diagnosed him?

I know this is all scary and confusing enough without issues like this coming up.

Hopefully you'll get some firm answers soon.

MRI scan picked it up. He's recently had a CT scan and we are witing for the results of this. Hoping there are no more lesions anywhere . The consultant told us that he has 2cm lesion. Thank you so much for your reply

My husband had an MRI to confirm the HCC diagnosis after he'd had CT scan. Usually the MRI is considered as confirmation of diagnosis. I'll keep y'all in my prayers that there are no more lesions. Hopefully you get good news from the CT scan.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I apologize if I'm a little slow answering this week. Coming up on the first anniversary. 💔

HiI just wanted to touch base and see how things were going? Has any decisions been made about his treatment options? If you have any questions or anything else I can answer, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi sharon Thank you for your message. He has just had his gastroscopy which they say is ok . he has some bacteria in stomach no varices. I did notice on the report that it said he has portal hypertension. we never knew this. He has had a dry cough for 8 weeks now and cant understand what is causing this. I did read online that a cough can be a lesser known symptom of HCC. And that it seems to disappear when the tumor has gone. We will see. We havent heard from the hospital regarding what his treatment plan will be yet. They arent sure that he will have resection because of the cirrhosis and are awaiting a liver surgeon to view his latest scans. The consultants secretary has told me that on his notes it says review in clinic in January !!!. I would like to know if having cirrhosis and HCC can be problematic to treat because the liver is not functioning properly. Also, he is losing a bit of weight and is convinced he is dying. Thank you for reaching out

I'm glad that y'all are finally finding some things out. Good that there's no varicies. Jimmy had them in his esophagus and had to have them banded so they wouldn't rupture. I hope there's enough good liver to have a resection. Unfortunately Jimmy's Cirrhosis was too widespread so resection was never an option for us. Cirrhosis can have an impact on what treatments are safe and how the liver responds to treatment. Hopefully you will get some more news sooner than January. Yes I think the pressure from the tumor perhaps can cause a cough. It seemed like Jimmy had one frequently. He also has COPD so they had to keep a close watch to make sure it was a dry cough and not the beginning of pneumonia. If he's losing weight, the protein drinks may help. I know Jimmy drank a lot of them. Sometimes eating several small meals a day instead of three larger meals will help if he's having problems with nausea or just not much appetite.

Hi Sharon, I was so sad to read your story. Im so sorry you lost your Jimmy I can only imagine how hard it has been for you. I too lost my previous husband not liver related, it was lymohoma so I understand the feeling of loss.

thankyou so much for talking to me. I too am wondering if Nick will be offered resection as he has cirrhosis. We are waitng for the surgeon to let us know if it is possible but Nick has pretty much decided to go for abaltion. He has some awful bleeding a couple of weeks ago from his bottom and i am wondering if that was liver related but not sure. The doctor said it was probably heamorrhoids. ( cant spell it ) It seems to have stopped now. He has lost a bit of weight too. Its horrible wondering if every little thing is liver related. Thanks again for your kind respose I really do value your words . Beverley x
