I have been prescribed Amlodipine 5mg for Level 1 hypertension (140/85). I'm 66 and have also started taking Atorvastatin 40mg a year ago. I am terrified of all the negative information about Amlodipine - looks to be a bit concerning. Any feedback would be appreciatwd.

Amlodipine
I've been on Amlodipine 5mg for about a year. Olmersatin 10mg was added in a bit later. No side effects, except for itching - but that could be from the opioids that I'm on for Restless Legs Syndrome.
Hope that helps.
have been on it for a couple of years with no problems.
I have been taking 10mg Amlodipine for fifteen years and have no ill effects. I assume that we are all different but unless you have a side effect now the chances are that you will be fine. I am older than you. I also take Artovastatin but only for a few years and have no issues with it either. The combination appears to work.
First…stop reading Dr Google……You will only know if Amlodipine suits you by trying it under supervision.
I had been through so many drugs for hypertension that my GP referred me to a cardiologist when I was in my early 50’s - he put me on 40mg Amlodipine …& within a while it was reduced to 10mg…where it has remained for the last 30 yrs & I have never had any nasty side effects.
Hope it’s as successful for you.
I've been on Amlodipine 10mg for about 1 year now. I had swollen ankles for a couple of weeks but nothing since.
amlodipine was not good for me all kinds of problems
I am an elderly woman, and i’ve been taking amlodipine for several years now total 10 mg a day. I have had no adverse side effects. I am quite sensitive to a long list of medication so I am pleased. I have no problems with amlodipine. However, it no longer sufficiently lowers my blood pressure so my doctor added a second medication LISINOPRIL. I had an immediate bad reaction to it and am waiting for my next appointment to discuss it with my doctor. I could not take it at all.
Hi I have been on it and two others for almost 19 years now and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. I’m 65
I've been on amlodipine for several years with no problems.
Don't research it too much. The reaction is very individual,it works for most people.
Hi JM. All I can say is that I've been taking 10mg amlodipine for approx. 18 months and have been alert for possible side effects, having read the nhs guidance. I have identified nothing that's new and am satisfied that the benefits are worthwhile. My bp is now nicely controlled without any obvious negatives. Although I may be lucky, of course, I would definitely advise others to try amlodipine, with the caveat they return to their gp if they identify any of the side effects listed either on the accompanying info sheet or on the relevant nhs page.
