Hi me again. Changed from Oxybutynin. To Solifenacin. Been on it a week. No change OAB but have side effects. No appetite, in fact lost nearly half a stone since being on these meds. Dry mouth but not as bad as Oxybutynin. Constipation, still feel I want to go all the time. Discomfort in the bladder and urethra which I never had before I started on the meds. I eat high fibre foods and drink as much as I can. Just wondering if anyone else with has constipation with these, what to relieve it. I do take laxatives. Don’t want to be on them forever. Also how long were those of you on this drug before noticing any difference. I am not incontinent. One day just normal the next I had this constant urge to go. Looked up my medical records and it seems I have been referred to a gynurologist. The docs have not told me. No way would I want to take double the dose, would love to come off them, but scared It will be worse. Thank you for any insight you have. There have been many lovely replies.
Solifenacin : Hi me again. Changed from... - Bladder Health UK
Solifenacin
We have a product in Australia called Metamucil which is available at the chemist without any prescriptions. You add it to water and drink it . It's actually psyllium husk, which might help the constipation you are experiencing. You might feel happier with this as its a natural product. It helps bulk up the stools and allows them to pass more easily.
It takes about 4 hours to take effect. I don't have side effects apart from constipation. I tried all sorts and in the end I take 3 spoonfuls of a mix of linseeds and sunflower seeds with a little chopped walnut with 3 spoonfuls of porage oats as a cereal and it works. Good luck!
Thank you for your reply. Have heard about linseeds, but my doc has warned about seeds etc with diverticulosis. I do have porridge and kiwi fruit for breakfast and plenty of veg with dinner. Still need laxatives. Never did before the meds.
Yes . I have looked on Google lol, they suggest milled linseed better for diverticulosis. So I will give it a go. Do you mix the seeds in before you cook the porridge or after? Unfortunately I have always suffered constipation and have had a high fibre diet to counteract it, it has worked in the past. Not so much with these meds. Thanks for your tips.
