Just looking for some guidance - is there any known interaction between statins and other medicine that one needs to be aware of? I am mostly interested in the usual stuff like antibiotics or vitamins, or stuff you usually get at the pharamacy for when you are under weather for minor conditions.
Given the weather over here, thinking of topping up my Vit D dosage too. Any issues?

I am on statins and had antibiotics several times prescribed by my Doctor so they cannot interact with those but I do remember and I think it could have been a different antibiotic I had to stop my statin while I was taking it
But as antibiotics should be prescribed by Doctors they should and hopefully would tell you if you needed to stop them while taking them
I have to take vitamin D as well and again Doctor has told me to take it every day so that seems to be ok to with statins
I am not saying statins may not interact with some other things but what I always do is if I cannot speak with my Doctor I ask the pharmacist before I take any over the counter things we can buy they know so much about medications they would be able to tell you straight away if something was not suitable if you told them the medications you were on including statins
Hope others will come along and share their thoughts on this with you x
The patient information sheet that comes with the particular statin you are prescribed with will give information on any interactions. Otherwise talk to your local pharmacist. And if you believe you are not getting enough sunshine, which is understandable, then, in my opinion, taking Vitamin D tabs won't do you any harm. But if you are unsure talk to your pharmacist.
I take 40 mg. Atorvastatin daily (each evening), and my doctor recommended that I take Vitamin D to help slow the progress of my osteopenia. I take 2,000 IU every other day for a total of 8,000 IU per week. There seems to be no interaction between the two.
Sometimes , I do forget whether I have taken the statin that evening and I take 80 mg. Instead of my normal 40 mg. That is not common though.
Since my HA, I am overly cautious about all medications that I take, and I mainly check with my doctor before taking anything—even a vitamin. Last year, I had a deficiency in potassium. My doctor had me take a potassium supplement for about two months, and new blood tests revealed that my potassium levels were back to normal. I then stopped taking that supplement (per my doctor). Also, no side effects with the statin.
I would suggest checking with your doctor and/or pharmacist before taking any new medication or supplement.
