you could discuss this with the pharmacist at your gp’s surgery?

You need to discuss this with your GP or contact your Cardiac Unit by phone to speak to a Consultant or Nurse for some advice on this.Take extra care doing activities which could cause bleeding or bruising until this is resolved.

Double check whether you are also taking any supplements or herbal remedies and health food items that could be increasing your bleeding risks .

Although these are over the counter mainly organic supplements they do interact with blood medications and increase you risk of bleeding and bleeding time. Quite often it isn't the medication alone that causes the issue it can be other supplements taken alongside it.

They may not be prescribed or synthetic but they are still chemicals that effect the body and can have risks if combined together , especially if they contain high doses or taken with your prescribed medications.

Garlic, Ginger and Gingeroid like supplements, Grape seed extract , Nattokinase and Resveratrol , Coenzyme Q10, Quercetin , Grapefruit Seed or Liquorice Extract , Taurine, Green Tea Extract , Chamomile, Red Yeast Rice, Bromelain or Pineapple extract, and High levels of supplement forms of Vitamins D , A , E and C , B3, Omega 3, Selenium and Magnesiums can also increase bleeding times on warfarin, heparin and edoxaban and similar drugs.

So some people depending on their medication dose and bleeding risks should not take these things as high dose supplements at all.

And some people should take care about what is taken, how many supplements they take with blood thinning properties, the dose taken, and when they are taken during the day ( at least 4-6 hours between blood related medication and the supplements used).

Generally , the advice given is to keep taking the Edoxoban but to discuss it as soon as possible with a doctor in case they want to make a change in dose.

According to research the bleeding time and risk is lower on Edoxoban than on Warfarin or Heparin .

The bleeding risks are virtually the same on Edoxaban and Apixaban , although some research shows that Apixaban is lower , Edoxaban has better efficacy so it is worth discussing this with a Cardiologist.

(if you contact your named Cardio via their Secretary ,whom you can reach by ringing the hospital and asking for that extension , you can leave your Specialist a message and ask if they can give you some advice by phone or as a message from the Secretary to you and your GP , they are happy to help this way )

The choice they will make depends on the type of bleeding issues you have suffered , where , what the cause was and how often it occurs, as well as whether it's affecting your health in other ways like causing anaemia , increasing female bleeding issues, causing haemorrhage in delicate areas like eyes , the nose , stomach or mouth or slow wound healing. Being able to give the Doctor or Specialist this information will help them make a decision on how to improve your treatment.

The Pharmacist won't really be able to help you as even if they are knowledgeable about these drugs they are not in any position to change your doses or brands without getting permission or a prescription from the doctor.

Hope things are resolved soon , take care , Bee
