Hi, is this group also help and support for partners of someone who had a heart attack/ bypass CABG? Thank you .

My husband had a heart attack 7 months ago aged 48. They fitted a stent and a week later had a double bypass CABG. He has finished rehab and he is growing stronger each day.

Thank you. Just wondering how partners / carers cope with supporting their loved ones and the psychological affect it has on everyone.?

I think that sometimes partners or carers need as much if not more support than the actual sufferers. Feel free to ask for anything here.

You can help by joining in with dietary recommendations, and sharing exercises. I would say don't be too protective. Let your husband be guided by what he feels he can do.

Love and hugs to you both. 🤪

Thank you. Its so nice to find a group that understands. My husband 48 years old has always been fit and has played sports for most of his life. He had a Heart Attack playing cricket. I think its the shock that we are struggling with , as we had no idea and the psychological affect it has 7 months on. I do over protect . Rehab was brilliant and helped massively. That's over now. There's still pain and lack of fitness and strength . We know how lucky he's been. Thank you

Yes, my husband had a quintuple bypass. He missed out on cardio rehab and he wouldn’t join any groups so I joined this group for help and advice. People on here are very helpful and supportive.

Hello, I'm not a partner but the patient. I have to agree with don't smother your husband. It is an enormous shock for both of you...well the whe family really. Take it easy one day at a time. Fitness will improve, it takes time as does getting used to what happened. Take care xx

I’m assuming you live in the UK. If so your doctors groups of surgeries employs a “social prescriber” and they give you access to support groups in your area - whatever is available. Ring the docs surgery and tell the receptionist.

This group is brilliant at helping those with or their dearest to cope with heart issues.

A natural tendency to help slides into being overprotective. With my husband’s stroke a similarly stricken friend pointed out to me that everything I did to help (even lawn mowing!) was also mistakenly telling him I didn’t think he could do it. Difficult line to tread.

Look after you, spoil yourself a bit as he needs you more than either of you realise right now.

Thank you so much. Its a difficult journey for everyone. I know I need to step back abit. Ill certainly try my best. I hope you and your husband are improving and are ok. It's helping me to chat to people who understand what we are going though. Thank you
