Wildly fluctuating BP

I am having to keep a regular diary of my BP scores which really fluctuate massively. After moderate or strenuous activity my BP is normal to low, but following a relaxed state it can be as high as 190 plus. I am on doxazosin, atenelol and amlodopine. Of course, when it's as high as that I become stressed and anxious which doesn't help at all. Are there any insights please?

190 is high. How long have you been on your medication for? Sometimes it takes a while for medications to do their job. If you’ve been on the medication for some time, I would suggest contacting your GP or cardiologist as soon as possible. You don’t want to leave high BP untreated for a long amount of time. I have had cases in my family where high BP has led to TIA’s and a major stroke. This is of course, worst case scenario.

Keep hydrated as much as possible. Not eating enough fruit and vegetables can also contribute to it, including being over-weight. Reduce the amount of salt in your diet as well if it is rich in sodium.

I have small phases of high BP which settle on their own. I hope others with high BP come along to share their experiences with you as it seems to be a common issue.

All the best.

Hi Parsley56, I also suffer, and have done for a long time with high BP, I take Perindopril 8mg and Amlodipine 10mg and a 20mg Atorvastatine the later for cholesterol, and I have been told by my surgery if it goes over 140 for a few readings to get in touch, so I would definitely get in touch with your health centre for your readings, 190 is high, keep well and watch your sodium intake it really does make a massive contribution to high BP

if your medics have not told you already about lifestyle and diet, they should have! Get some good info from the website of Blood Pressure UK, the specialist charity.

Thankyou all for these replies. I have a low BMI and a healthy diet, avoiding salt where possible and am very active. My BP has badly impacted my kidney function so it's a massive problem. I hadn't heard of BP UK, so thankyou for signposting. My GP just takes average readings and because I have a good amount of low readings it seems to balance it out. These replies have made me question this practice I must say.
