my son had mitral valve replacement in March but has been given the go ahead to go on holiday.
can I use the normal compare sites to get a quote if I add the existing condition?
mor do we need specialist insurance companies to quote for insurance?

I tried the comparison sites for an annual policy - the quotes were ridiculous, up to £5000 a year.
I then tried the company with which I have my home and motor cover, exactly the same issues disclosed and the quote was less than half the cheapest on the comparison site.
You can try the compare sites but I would suggest you give Avanti travel insurance a try, I have all ways found them the best.
Try gocompare. I got good prices for a yearly policy for holidays upto 45 days. With health problems of Pacemaker, Copd, and CKD. Quotes from £350. Brian
I have MVD, permanent Afib plus a host of other conditions and found it difficult to get reasonable travel insurance, one company quoted nearly £6K for a three week cruise! The company I eventually chose and feel the most comfortable with is Millstream. The medical screening was done by a nurse who understood the conditions and could engage properly with the screening process. It wasn’t the cheapest quote but it wasn’t ridiculous considering my complex health conditions. Also, an annual insurance wasn’t extortionate, so if he’s thinking of going away more than once in a year it’s well worth the extra.
