Meds for Afib

has anyone got an answer to the pill with the least side effects to treat AFib ,

Some people have adverse side effects to a placebo such as calcium. Flecainide has been proven to be safe over the past 28 years of it's use.

Everything has potential side effects, and each medicine/dose will affect different people differently.

Sadly it can be a case of trial and error to find something that's suitable for you as an individual. I'd advise asking a pharmacist to go through what's available.

I have permanent a fib, my cardiologist wanted to increase by bisoprolol to 10 mg from 7.5 per day, which I refused due to it wiping me out during the day, so he gave me digoxin as well as the 7.5 bisoprolol, seems to have worked out well, still get a bit tired in the afternoon but not as bad as 10mg of bisoprolol. my heart rate asleep reached highs of 170 which he said was like I was in a gym, I really had no idea this was happening, just thought it was anxiety

My brother has Afib and has had issues wth medication. Initially he was on 5mg Bisoprolol which made him feel very ill. Even on 2.5mg he was unwell, so his GP changed tack and put him on Apixaban. As I understand it this reduces the likelihood of a stroke which is an issue associated with Afib, but I'm unsure as to whether it has any effect on the Afib itself.

As has been said, all medication is trial and error and needs to be tailored tothe individual.

Apixban has no other purpose other than altering the nature of the blood,I.e. anti coagulation.

Yes exactly what you need to do as a deterrent to stroke, I developed Afib recently from a bout of Covid and find Bisoprolol wipes me so as my heartrate is low anyway will be having an ablation shortly. Its a bloody pain to know what is best for you as most of those meds have side effects.

Thank you for your response GWP1952, I’m on a low dose Digoxin but they make me breathless and all meds upset my Hiatus Hernia , ergo as you say it’s trial and error .

My brother has also had Afib for many years, GWP. He's currently prescribed flecainide and 2.5mg bisoprolol which seem to control it quite well. He was given 7.5mg bisoprolol originally but couldn't tolerate it either - luckily he seems to be able to tolerate the 2.5mg well. I'd agree that medication is trial and error and certainly needs to be tailored. He also finds that certain food and drinks will trigger an episode so now avoids red wine and certain spices.

i have permanent A/Fib/Flutter, have been on Rampiril, Bisoprolol,Apixaban for at least 6 years, havent got any better or any worse, still get all the symptoms ! Also have CKD, and supposedly moderate heart failure, still going at 86 years old!,,x
