Just told my ejection fraction is 45%, GP put me on statins and awaiting appointment with consultant cardiologist. No symptoms other than occasional mild chest pains after exercise. No idea what to expect now, just wondered if anyone here can give me an insight of what's next.

Hi  Macpherson999

Welcome to the forum and your first post!

There are many others on here with a low ejection fraction which have improved on medication. Some have reverted back to almost a “normal” life. It’s seems that medication has had an important part to play in increasing ejection fraction. If you have just started taking your meds, it will take a while to work until you see some improvement.

I hope they will be along soon to offer their experiences and advice. In the meantime, I just wanted to add the above which may help you with some reassurance.

Let us know how you get on.

All the best.

Tos

Thanks for your reply, still in shock at the moment I guess as i really didn't expect the test to come back with anything.

I can imagine. Sometimes, I do think the diagnosis probably sounds scarier than what it is, especially if you’re normally fit and healthy otherwise.

If you have any concerns, you can always share them on here.

Dear you,

Welcome to the forum and your first { of many we hope } posts.

You didn't say how your Dr came to this conclusion of only having a 45% EF { ejection fraction } as the that normally take a specialist scan { hospital } to measure it accurately .

Mine is at 20% at the moment of typing.

Try not to worry until you have all the information in front of you, to be honest I think your Dr was a little blunt with you.

Take care and we look forward to hearing more of your story.

You are not alone and we are here to help in anyway we can.

I had an echocardiogram, had the results earlier in the week.

To save any confusion I have deleted the line in my post, I am sorry if I said anything misleading to the OP that was not my intention, thank you for pointing it out.

I totally agree with you and its important that they get the right facts at the beginning of their journey.

I have no problem being corrected especially if its for the good of others, its better to be corrected than the wrong information given.

Take care

there’s a good video on you tube called York cardology Actually there’s several by this doctor. Have a look out for him I’m sure he will be able to put your mind at rest and explain what EF is and the treatments available. He is very reassuring and explains everything in normal speak no medical terminology. Take care x
