You do sound really worried, and I hope we can help. But I’m not sure I understand exactly what you are saying, and what you are being told. Are you down for double valve replacement? Are you wondering if it would help you?

We are here to try and help.

you should have had more explained to you and be able to talk to a cardiac nurseif not see your GP

Hello :-)

I read your post and did not quite understand what you were saying

It sounds like you need two new valves which they can do but then you say it is not curable which getting new valves is possible

I know when we write a post it does not always sound like if we were speaking to someone but I hope you will come back and explain some more and see if anyone can give some good advice and reassurance to you

Would be lovely to know how you are doing :-) x

hi. I had severe mitral valve and tricuspid valve regurgitation due to contracting rheumatic fever as a child. I’ve had a replacement mitral valve (mechanical) and a repair to the tricuspid. I was told that this would put my life expectancy back to normal. Unfortunately due to endocarditis I now suffer with heart failure but I’m told that with medication this can be managed and I may well come out of heart failure in the future. It sounds as if the cardiologist hasn’t really explained things very well or perhaps I’ve misunderstood your post.

Hello. Just wanted to say that I too have a damaged mitral valve from having rheumatic fever as a child. I wasn't aware that I had even had rheumatic fever! İt is a total shock to be told something is wrong with your heart. My head was all over the place when I was told. My anxiety went through the roof!

I will need surgery in the future as my condition worsens. However, as the previous poster has written, the good news is that it can be fixed. I have read lots of posts on this forum about people having successfully mitral and aortic valve replacements and then leading active lives. İt is a very stressful time for you and I want to wish you all the best x
