Running Fitness post angiogram

Hello. Two weeks ago I was half way through a marathon training schedule, as I have been for the last 12 years during Feb/March. However, I had to have an angiogram last week because of intermittent chest pain and “potential” stenosis revealed on a CT scan. No stent was needed as the flow was 97%. For some reason I thought I would be up and running (literally) again but get chest pain and breathless when I try… is this normal?

The original chest pain was most likely caused by anxiety as that was apparent whenever I had it and running is my way of dealing with this, so this development post-angiogram is quite a shock.

My wrist still hurts enormously if I stretch it or lift more than a mug of tea so I guess anything internal nearer my heart could still be bruised? MaybeI am expecting too much of myself.

Thank you for any insights/experiences.

I had an NSTEMI (a type of heart attack) four years ago and had an angiogram. I was told I had severe arteriosclerosis in one of my heart arteries but no stent was fitted. I do not recall any after effects after the angiogram, and carried on with life much as before with some changes to protect my heart. Recently I got chest discomfort after moderate exercise and have been diagnosed with angina after a trip to A&E and a two night 'sleep over' when a regime of meds were prescribed. I had to return to A&E a week later since the meds weren't working and am now on a new med which seems to be OK, time will tell. My advice to you is to make an emergency appointment with your GP (don't be fobbed off) but if the chest pains are bad get yourself down to A&E whether as a walk- in or by 999. Do not feel guilty about using the A&E service, there are others who use it who really have no need for it from my observations.

Thanks for the reply LowerField. Glad things are getting better for you.Yes, I did call 999 but they decided it wasn’t life threatening so nothing happened. I was in no state to drive myself to A & E either! The chest pain lifted this weekend after another anxiety attack on the Friday so I think that must have been part of the cause 🤔
