Hi everyone, does or has anyone suffered chronic nausea as a result of heart meds. I have had some of my meds changed but still I am struggling. Thanks, Judi

Hi Judi, sorry to hear about your issue. I started on ramipril, atorvastatin 40mg and sertraline about 12 months ago. I was hugely anxious at the time too hence the sertraline. I suffered with terrible nausea initially, particularly after eating a meal, there were several times I thought I might actually be sick (but never was). I even started giving myself a smaller portion than my husband of our evening meal (unheard of!) and couldn’t finish a meal (also unheard of!) as I was so nervous of the nausea. It did pass after a few weeks though so don’t despair, hopefully yours willAlso pass. If not I’d suggest going back to review the meds and see if you can try something else. Good luck :)

Hello VickyHK72, many thanks for your reply I really appreciate it. Due to the sickness and nausea I am not able to eat at the moment which is not great. I am going to speak with the doctor tomorrow to discuss as it’s a struggle. I am going to ask for a review of two of the meds I am on. Thank you again for your reply. Judi

There are several meds which cause nausea. Mostly it's a transient thing, and your body gets used to them, however sometimes that's not the case as with meI saw a cardiologist, and he recommended reducing atorvastatin from 80 to 40mg, weaning myself off bisoprolol, and changing the proton pump inhibitor from lansoprazole to famotidine (which iss not a PPI). Apparently long term use of Lansoprazole can cause nausea the very thing it's supposed to stop! This was a year after I had a heart attack

The effect was remarkable no more nausea.

I should add that he did this after seeing an angiogram and all the other tests I had done. My GP would not make any adjustment to meds without agreement feom a cardiologist.

I also contacted a pharmacist who is the go to person in our local NHS area. He was most helpful. I take other meds as well, and he pointed out another combination of drugs which could cause problems.

Thanks ever so much richard_jw that’s really helpful. This is the 2nd time I have had to change some of my meds due to nausea and sickness and like you the problems do not seem to go away. I am going to speak with my doctor tomorrow and if I don’t get any joy I will speak to the cardiologist or a member of his team., thank you again, Judi

im on the usual cocktail of heart drugs and have found recent switch to entresto from ramipril (10 weeks) so far gives regular bouts of nausea but recently noticed frequency diminishing. Previously had similar experience with ramipril cough which went after about 6-9 months , as my body adjusted to the medication

I know it’s hard but try and persevere a bit longer as it may lessen. I feel sick sensation but haven’t actually vomited yet. I also find it doesn’t impact eating but get it sometimes after drinking glass of water . Good luck
