Hello
I am on a cocktail of medications including Bisoprolol
My Doctor and Consultant suggested if I wanted to go on an anxiety medication that Sertraline was one that was safe and found worked very well in heart patients that had anxiety
This one seems to be the most popular one they use but if you contact your Doctor or Consultant they will tell you what they feel is suitable for you x
Thank you so much for replying.
I am due to see my consultant in January but can’t wait that long for help with anxiety. I will talk to my GP on Monday - hopefully they can suggest the same one 😃 xx
Your GP should be able to or know what is safe and if not stress to them you need to start on something as you cannot wait till January you are at breaking point , they can find out if they are not sure I had 3 heart attacks , triple Bypass and as I say I am on a cocktail of meds so I am guessing Sertraline should be safe enough for you but of course they have your medical notes and will know
My Consultant did also tell me as well as my GP that this is something she prescribes on a regular basis to anxious patients
Let me know how you get on , be firm though if you are feeling that bad and don't let them try and make you wait x
Yeah I will - I’m not sure if it’s work related (I’m a primary school teacher OR my heart is playing up). Either way I can’t wait that long.
I will let you know what they say and thanks again xx
It is very stressful times and that can mimic things when we are under pressure but getting things checked out is the sensible thing to do and often once we have that can make us feel so much better at least we know then what we are dealing with and if it were anything they are so good now at treating us and getting us better :-)You want something to help you they will sort something that will till things get better and they will x
Ask about the side effects. This year my son had sertraline then changed to another. Now I can't remember which tablet did what but one of them made him eat like there was no tomorrow. He just couldn't stop eating. The other stopped him from sleeping. Usually side effects wear off but these didn't. Also ask how long before they start to work and how easy they a re to come off.
Be sure to ask your GP to give you some short acting medication for anxiety relief for the first three weeks or so of taking sertraline as it has an initial side effect of an increase in anxiety which passes in several weeks as the medication starts to work
I completely agree. I had a horrible horrible time for the first few weeks and I would seriously consider whether you want to start this tablet so close to Christmas. Don't get me wrong, it's made a huge difference now but I would be devastated if I had started taking them before Christmas, couldn't sleep or eat and I had countless panic attacks. It is worth it though.
Hi hun. I am on lots of medication including Bisoprolol. The doctor prescribed me sertraline for anxiety. Talk to your doctor and they will find you what's best. Take care x
I will - thank you. How did you feel when you started sertaline? X
I had no side effects. It does take time but I was having therapy too x
Thank you! That’s good you had no side effects. I have had group and individual therapy already. My anxiety flares up and I can’t really pinpoint the triggers - my heart issues cause it to be even worse but I’m hoping some anxiety medication might help it subside? Xx
I have been on various anxiety/depresdion meds over the years. One i am on at present is Vensir and when i had my heart attack in April this year nothing was said about the tablet so i assume im good to go lol Good luck xx
I've been on and off Sertraline over the years and had no side effects at all. My daughter has started Sertraline and is much better on it.
I would hesitate to take it with any antiarrhythmic drugs though as it can cause VT
That’s interesting - does it help your anxiety? What is VT?
I had suspected SVT a few years ago - is that the same thing?
Dear Mrs K , I suggest you find the nearest Yoga class , or Aqua exercise , you must look at the cause of your anxiety , you cannot take medication for anxiety for life Try a walk and talk class , any group activity, you will feel much better .
Or schedule a walk everyday, as a teacher you have long holidays, how about some
Community volunteering , chat to a lonely person, help at the Library …I am 80 and have had a lot of anxiety in life , so I know it’s not easy , but on two occasions I have nearly lot my life through medications, I had liver failure with one prescribed drug , and kidney failure a couple of years later after 7 days on a pill.
So try to resist medication and involve yourself in a distraction.
Thank you for your suggestions!Unfortunately I have tried these things already…medication is going to be my last resort.
I have four children who all have active lifestyles with clubs I take them too. I work full time as a teacher. I volunteer as a local councillor. I help in the community. I run couch to 5k. I go on long dog walks.
I am struggling - anxiety is awful but at the moment I feel I need help with it.
Sertraline 100mgs is what I take, alongside my Bisoprolol and vast cocktail of other medications. I started on 50mgs and after 5 months felt no different, so GP raised it to 100mgs.
I have never experienced any negative side effects or adverse drug interaction with the other medications.Once the higher dose kicked in, it helped me with low mood and depression, almost back to "my normal" but anxiety - not so much, but this is just my experience and do feel better overall. I try and use a cognitive behavioural approach to deal with the anxiety.
Hope all works well for you.
🙏
Just a quick update. My GP has suggested sertraline and said it was fine to take alongside my current medication. She thinks it will really help with my anxiety levels and did reassure me a lot about my heart episodes. So I am starting on a low dose and building up. Thanks for all the advice and have a great Christmas 🎅🏻
