Post Operative Aortic Valve and single CABG July 2019 . On July 28th 2021 I had TIA, out of the blue. Paramedics called, taken to A&E, all investigations carried out, then up to the stroke ward for 24 hours. Home but feeling really shocked, and anxious. Live on my own. Is there a support group for this? Would love to share with others who could be supportive and share how they coped. Thank you.

Evening marigoldb

I was so sorry to read your post, you must feel so very anxious. My husband had a huge stroke 5 weeks after my surgery BHF have a stroke page. They also do help sheets you can request a copy of. I found them really useful.

When John left the hospital he was assigned a stroke nurse who put us in contact with help, clubs that you can join for mutual support, but we live in Scotland so maybe things are a wee bit different here. I would certainly contact BHF and see what is on offer.

As I said John’s stroke took his left side and a lot of his sight. It’s now nearly 5 years ago but he is still here, can still get very down but we can still laugh most days. Sometimes the situation needs a laugh or you would cry.

I really hope you can get the support that you need, just talking to others I know really does help.

Best wishes Pauline

Thank you so much Pauline for your reply, I will certainly see about stroke support via the BHF. They have been such a support and with others since my bi g op. I think living on one’s own, doesn’t help does it?So pleased you and John manage together, although he does get down at times!

My father had a mega stroke aged 70, and he was severely disabled on the right side, and that side affects speech. In those days there wasn’t any help like nowadays. My mother was fantastic, and being much younger than him, had to go to work, as well as look after him. He lived to 85 years old.

He was to me the most amazing example of being patient, and very accepting, in 15 years, yes he cried sometimes, but never got angry!, love to you both x Marigold
