Arrhythmia, C-PTSD and Domestic Abuse. The remotely known link between mental health and heart arrhythmia.

I have recently found information detailing how my developed SVT could be a direct result of an 8 year abusive relationship which has caused me to also suffer with C-PTSD. I would love to explore this further with the BHF and raise awareness as it wasn't a link my GP had made until I showed her what I found! I am happy to share my story and want to help others who cannot find an explanation for their conditions

Hi kerry_izYes, you are correcting in your thinking. It's certainly not an overly known or well acknowledged fact that experiencing and enduring on-going domestic abuse and violence is said to contribute to and account for the onset and development of cardiovascular disease of around 32% in woman, compared to women who didn't experience abuse.

Not sure how this works out for men who are also the subject of abusive relationships.

In terms of C-PSTD, and especially in un-treated and un-diagnosed PTSD sufferers, I believe a causal link has been well established and acknowledged, suggesting there is a much higher risk of developing both cardiovascular and circulatory diseases, and more recently cancers.

Due in the main, to women consistantly living in a state of fear and being super hyped up with associated anxiety over long periods of time, and which may co-exist with other health conditions, biological, psychological or both.

I think it's really useful for this to be flagged-up as I'm sure there are people out there who may find this information very informative and useful, so thanks for sharing 🙂
