ECG Results panic!

Hi all

Just wondering how quickly get an ecg result

I'm 36 and was taking propranolol for anxiety but had to stop it due to the side effects. After stopping, I had a rebound effect where I had palpitations and chest pain. I also had a pain in my shoulder and running down my arm. I was sent to A and E by the GP and I was given an ECG, Chest X-Ray and blood work (not sure what they checked but they took 6 vials) - all were fine and the doc said my trop levels were normal, my heart wasn't enlarged and there was no sign of damage to the heart. Also said that my QTC was normal (had to check this because I was also taking Citalopram). He put it down to my anxiety and coming off the propranolol.

My GP phoned as a follow up and I told him that I still had this pain in my arm (but no longer in my chest), palpitations and a bit of breathlessness. He sent me for another ECG which I had a few days ago - I have not received the results yet as it was an appointment rather than a referral. I was thinking that they'd get a hold of me quickly if something was wrong. Is that right? My pulse during the ECG was 134 but I get really nervous in hospitals so put it down to that.

The arm pain is pretty constant but does get worse with movement and exercise - Can this be a sign of angina or a heart issue without chest pain? I'm not sure if its maybe just an arm injury e.g. trapped nerve or if its just my anxiety.

thanks

Alan

My experience is that the nurse doing the ECG takes it to a GP straight away if they are concerned. But as a fail safe, they tell you to ring in the next day, if you haven’t heard anything. The receptionist tells me if the GP wants to speak to me, or not,

The nurse took it away after printing it and said she was getting it "signed off". Not sure what she meant by that. She then came back and said the result would be with my gp in about a week. Phoned today and no result yet

From my understanding, the fact that your arm is worse with movement would be indicative of an injury or arm issue rather than pain associated with a cardiac problem. As you say, the fact that they haven’t contacted you is actually good in so far as it means there’s nothing major wrong. Given the tests you’ve had, this does sound to me like you’ve got a major bout of anxiety going on rather than anything physical.

Thats what I thought. The nurse took the print out to get "signed off". Not sure if this is normal or means something wrong. M heart rate was 134 because of my nerves so not sure if that has caused abnormalities in the reading. She then came back and said I'd get result from gp in a week. Phoned this morning but no result yet.

Phoned in now for results after 10 days. Doc has the ecg but hasn't looked at it yet. If it was urgent would it have some sort of flag to be looked at straight away?

Edit. Phoned again still not been checked but receptionist said they are not marked as urgent so will just be routine.
