Clopidogrel: Has anyone experienced... - British Heart Fou...
Clopidogrel
How long have you been on it? Could it have been something you ate?
I have been taking Clopidogrel for 8 years without problems.
I’m also on lansoprazole for stomach acid after switching from Omeprazole as I take quite a few other blood pressure tablets also cholesterol medication and Diabetic medication so on top of them I’m now taking the Clopidogrel and Aspirin
I have just been switched on to clopidogral and read leaflet which says common side effects include stomach pain. Only been on it 2 days and my nose also wants to bleed ,also included as a side effect. I am praying it's temporary.
Unfortunately, the effects of Clopidogrel stay with you! I bruise at the slightest touch and if my skin is cut, I bleed a lot more than I used to. I was told to be glad that I could tell it was working!
Thank youfor reply.Yes I guess there is not much difference in the 3 most used platelet drugs .beginning to wish I had stuck with 10 mgs prasugrul. Iv done 4 months only 8 to go !!!!
I have been on clopidogrel for all a year and still have stomach pain, I have tried all the antacids still no change currently on pantoprozole.
Hi, I've been on Clopidogrel for over 3 years and don't seem to have any problems, if you are getting tummy trouble, you should go to your gp and get it looked at if it carries on. Good luck.
I ended up with stomach ulcers and gastric after 12 months on Clopidogrel and I am now on a PPI for life, perhaps you should enquire about taking a PPI short term?
The 2 times Ive taken clopidigrel I had to come off it as it gave me severe vertigo. Talk to your GP and they’ll give you an alternative xx
I took cloppy Dog for 4 months and it gave me a bleeding rear end! Cardiologist switched it to Ticagrelor, which I knew I had no problems with.
I love the phrase cloppy dog😊
So do I. When I was first given Ticagrelor in hospital, before I'd seen the spelling, the only way I could make sense of what the nurse was saying was to interpret it as Tick A Gorilla.
I've been on clopidogrel for 17 years, together with asprin, off an on. It did affect my stomach and I was prescribed Lanzoprazole , which I'm still on and seems to have done the trick. You need to talk to your GP about this as bleeding from the stomach wall can develop in some people without protection from a PPI drug such as Lanzoprazole.
I’m on lanzoprazole as I’ve changed from Omeprazole for a good few years and I’ve heard it effects the Clopidogrel I will speak to my Cardiologist and GP and see what they advise it could all be down to stress and anxiety as I’m still having discomfort in my chest I had my angioplasty done on the 30th October so early days but many thanks
I have been on Clobidogrel since February, and I had stomach pain, was put on Lansoprazole 15 mg.
It worked, but every now and then still get a few twinges, but nothing like before.
In answer to your question - yes! I was given Clopidogrel and aspririn on an empty stomach after a suspected heart attack. Hours later I was doubled up in pain. I was given Omeprazole which improved things. Fortunately I had not had a heart attack so I didn't need to take it, so stopped.
I have a sensitive stomach and have suffered from gastritis which is a pre-ulcerative condition - also very painful so I can sympathise. Others with more robust guts are fine.
The Clopidogrel and Aspirin disrupt your prostaglandins which are connected with the protective mucus shield in your gut.
There is research going on into Zinc-Carnosine supplements taken alongside Clopidogrel and Aspirin. Z-C enhances prostoglandin production. I have read that in Japan it is already widely prescribed with these drugs.
The source of this info is "Ulcer Free" by Georges M Halpern who is a retired medical doctor and claims to have cured an ulcer in this way.
I got stomach pain when I first went on Clopidogrel. My Cardio Rehab team said I should take my lansoprazole 30 minutes before taking my Clopidogrel/Asprin and take plenty of water and eat. I took my lansoprazole before breakfast and my Clopidogrel/Asprin with breakfast along with a pint of water, I found this helped a lot.
