Very confused hearing that I've been diagnosed when I don't remember having echo cardiogram.

Hi, I got a call from a GP yesterday to say that I should self isolate for 12 weeks as I have more than one serious condition. I have type 2 diabetes which is well controlled by diet and exercise and GP told me that I had an echocardiogram in 2015 which showed that I had mild aortic stenosis.

I registered with my current GP in 2016. In 2013 I had a health check at my previous surgery which showed that I had diabetes but the doctor didn't tell me until two years later when I had an appointment for something completely unconnected. When my records were sent over to my new surgery my new GP made reference to my recent heart attack, apparently there was a coding error when my records were transferred.

I was shocked yesterday when my GP said that I had aortic stenosis. I did not know what an echocardiogram was until I googled it and I am positive that I have never had one. The GP said that I should have been monitored after the condition was diagnosed and said that she will refer me for another test when the current virus situation gets back to normal.

I am not particularly fit but I walk at least 8000 steps six days a week and I don't have any of the symptoms described. Could this information in my records be another mistake? I'm feeling quite stressed by this because I don't see how I could forget having this test unless there is something seriously wrong with my memory.

Hi there. Why don’t you ask to see all of your records? It’s possible they’ve made a mistake. An Echo is a non invasive procedure and not at all unpleasant so you might as well have one when the dust settles.

Thanks for responding, I will have the procedure. I am pleased that my new surgery is keeping an eye on patients but I am hoping that this is another mistake by my former doctor.
