Diabetic peripheral neuropathy and Angina -

I am trying to understand what triggers my chest discomfort and general feeling of life ebbing away/ Yesterday I went to the gym - my doc spot - recommended gym- walked on the treadmill for half an hour at 0.5 incline and 4.8 / 5.0 speed - then did some cycling - and came home to a feeling of complete exhaustion- the only way I can walk any little distance is to blow my breath out and consciously focus on breathing - if I walk less than 2500 steps a day and keep sedentary for the whole day and then lie down for a good 12 hours at night - I feel normal - but if I walk between 4/5k steps I start getting chest discomfort- and the burning sensation in the front of my thighs now starts after 10 minutes of walking or 20 minutes of standing around.

Does anyone else also have similar symptoms?

From my experience I would suggest you go to see your GP, and ask for an exercise ECG to monitor your heart and a Doppler, with brachial indexes, to check for PAD (peripheral arterial disease). As you have neuropathy there is a good chance you have a degree of PAD.

You may have to push. I am having a Doppler in a fortnight but had to help things over the line!

Thank you MichaelJH - it’s such a struggle getting the GP to get any tests done .

Just a thought..... my legs hurt on exercise when I’m unfit. Perhaps first build up your steps very very slowly, but steadily. No incline, short distances, slowly, not after eating, no cold days etc etc. Some people with lots of a angina tell me they take a GTN spray before starting to exercise.

You went for it a bit, for (at present) someone who’s only really comfy sitting .
