Transient loss of consciousness

Several days ago I suffered the above. No warning but I recovered with lacerations to my knee and severe headache.

Went to hospital to have knee dressed and BP was 220/114. I had tests including a brain ct scan and sent home.

The next day I was phoned by consultant neurologist and told to go in immediately as there was a lesion on my brain.

Subsequent MRI showed no active bleed but I had a heart murmur. It is 18 months since my aortic valve replacement.

My BP is still very high, my doctor had stopped my Indapamine because of very low potassium.

Any advice appreciated

What does the cardiologist say? Is there a cardiac reason you passed out? Did they investigate a potential arrhythmia?

Was your potassium low at the time of the incident? And has your bp come down?

Unfortunately my BP is still high running at approximately 190/90. Cant get a gp appointment. My potassium is better after stopping indapamide. I saw a neurologist who is arranging a heart scan and a 48 hour BP check. Soonest cardiologist apointment is June 2020.

My best offer from the surgery is to ring tomorrow at 8am and speak to the duty doctor.

They took six years to decide to investigate my heart murmur before, by which time I had an aortic valve replacement as an emergency.

I just shake my head at this stuff. It's just too hard to believe this happens.

You say there is a brain lesion but no active bleed. Is the lesion then a blood clot and have you had a TIA (mini stroke)?

My discharge form says sub arachnoid haemorrhage then it says periventricular white matter consistent with age. So I don't quite understand it.

I am more concerned about the heart murmur as I thought that had been sorted with the aortic valve replacement.

My blood pressure is totally out of control, my gp is a complete waste of time.

Perhaps when you lost consciousness you fell and hit your head, hence the bleed in one of the brain’s protective layers. The white matter is something that does come with age.

I hope they get to the bottom of your episode and get you fixed up.

Got phoned an hour ago and told to return to hospital. Apparently they had a clinical meeting and need to do more investigations. Told to expect to stay minimum two nights.
