I’m 56 former professional athlete who’s had occasional skipped beats since my thirties. About two years ago I would get bouts of about twenty skips a day for a month and they would gradually go away. Visited cardiologist, did blood work and found high cholesterol (family history) and slightly high blood pressure. Halter monitor and stress test showed nothing. His only comment is you have heart disease in your family. He also said I have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) that I have to admit runs in our family.
He worked me up to 80mg of pravastatin and 20 mg lisinopril.
I began training by hiking hills and about three months into training started having a few skipped beats before and after training. Then I started having a few while training. Sometimes they’d come and sometimes they wouldn’t.
I’ve taken a month off and they seem to be subsiding. We have a family history of heart disease but I can’t believe I go from hiking mountains with no symptoms and then laying around the house counting palpitations. Is this a part of the aging process? Could all of this be do to anxiety? I’m afraid to take the Lexapro he prescribed. I have tons of energy and sex life is fantastic. Haven’t had a cold or sniffles in two years.
I went from taking a vitamin to being prescribed two medication, a third not used yet and I’m sure they’ll add more every time I go in...
Thank you!
