Hi I take aspirin, warfarin, bisoprolol & perindopril after having a aortic valve replacement 2 1/2 yrs ago. I also take lansoprazole, fluoxetine & hrt.
I'm having trouble with my nails peeling & being brittle. I've had good nails all my life (I'm 62) & I'm hoping that some one can help identify which drug may be causing my problem.
Thanks Marion

Hi Tilly, I am on a cocktail of drugs since my AVR and a splenectomy and I find my pharmacist is the best place to go for info about drug interactions, side effects etc. , he’s been brilliant.
I suspect sometimes nail problems develop with lifestyle changes rather than drugs. Calcium is absorbed better via food so keeping things like skimmed milk, low fat cottage cheese and yogurt in the diet is important.
I can't stand it when my nails peel off. In your case, this is most likely caused by a suppressed immune system and a lack of calcium. I can't recommend you exclude anything from your medications or add something because I'm not a doctor. The only thing I can advise you is to buy a strengthening nail polish. When I start having problems with my nails, I immediately begin painting my nails with a strengthening varnish. Before the primary color of the Candy Apple Red nail polish, I apply a strengthening varnish. In this way, my nails quickly come back to normal. You can try to get rid of peeling nails in this way. Good luck.
